Carl Krawitt has watched his son, Rhett, now 6, fight leukemia for the past 4 1/2 years. For more than three of those years, Rhett has undergone round after round of chemotherapy. Last year he finished chemotherapy, and doctors say he is in remission.
Now, there's a new threat, one that the family should not have to worry about: measles.
Rhett cannot be vaccinated, because his immune system is still rebuilding. It may be months more before his body is healthy enough to get all his immunizations. Until then, he depends on everyone around him for protection what's known as herd immunity.

If his son is vaccinated and the vaccine actually works, he has nothing to worry about.
Plus the fact is that kids can’t get into school without the vaccines anyway.
If his child is vaccinated, then how come is he worried about his child catching something???
Yes 2 + 2 = 4
If your child is not vaccinated, you would be a fool to put them in public school.
They waive the rules for the children of illegal aliens.
Then they need to be honest and say that.
Maybe the kid needs to be isolated at home. But no,Daddy wants to create chaos for other families and force the issue.
The kid cannot be vaccinated because he is being treated for cancer.
Story says his son can’t be vaccinated right now because his immune system is compromised.
I’m not being insensitive to this poor child or his father. However, “herd immunity” sounds all nice but is it really possible? This child’s immune system is weakened by the chemotherapy and cannot get immunizations for some time. I’m not saying he should be in a bubble. However, wouldn’t it be a better and a more logical practice to have this child home schooled (or taught at home by a teacher provided by the county for sick/injured children who cannot attend school)? Even with every child immunized in the school, it sounds like a flu could kill this child at this point.
It’s right there in the excerpt - his son can’t be vaccinated because of a compromised immune system. Which also means measles is a big deal for him.
Personally I would think a kid that medically fragile should stay out of public schools but if they ban peanuts, then I don’t see how this is unreasonable.
Sounds like homeschooling might be an answer.
**what’s known as herd immunity.**
The idiots who don’t get their children immunized are just betting that enough of us do the right thing and that will protect their children.
The shit head father doesn’t give enough of a crap about his kid to home school?
What an @sshole.
His child’s medical condition does not entitle him to trample on the rights of others. This is a narcissistic ego craving attention. It is not just some parent looking out for his kid.
Since Rhett cannot be vaccinated, because his immune system is still rebuilding, then he should also be banned from the school until he can be vaccinated.
lets see the shot records of all these new ‘immigrants’
I agree. There are so many technologies available now, why even risk it? Colorado has K12, a virtual school, kids don’t have to attend brick and mortar schools.
So the rest of the world must conform to him?
I think his concern is that because his son has had all the treatments for leukemia, his immune system has been compromised and depressed at least until he can rebuild his strength. So he is at a vulnerable state right now.
However, I think the best solution is for he and his wife to home school the boy for several months until he has become stronger, rather than put this problem on the shoulders of the school district.
