I want to marry my cousin...
djf

Well, not really. But maybe!

Can you marry your cousin? It's an interesting question.

In some states, YES, you CAN marry your first cousin! In other states - it's a no-no, forbidden.

Now HOW and WHY was this state of affairs (or marriages, be it whatever) allowed to exist? How and why did states HAVE THE RIGHT to determine under what conditions marriage was allowable?

Because it was RECOGNIZED by the federal government that equal protection WAS NOT VIOLATED by such marriages!

Thoughts? Ideas?

(btw, my cousin is kind of cute, but she's just not my type...) ;-)

Probably because when people marrying their cousin isn’t incredibly frequent like European nobility, it isn’t as gigantic of an issue. Maybe they also found such marriages so rare, that they didn’t find a need to make a law about it.

Correct.

And from a case in New York in 2014, where a marriage had taken place between an uncle and a niece, it was appealed to a Federal court, who then ASKED THE HIGHEST NEW YORK COURT TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE!

The New York supreme court then reviewed the rulings and decisions and decided the marriage was a true marriage.

Case closed.

I think you can marry your first cousin in 11 states. GA and Fl and can’t remember the others. I also think in some states you have to be 55 or older to marry your first cousin so as not to reproduce. :-)

Ergo, the Federal government simply has no jurisdiction.

And it is a GRIEVOUS MISTAKE to give them jurisdiction by implication!

Inbreeding was a huge problem within European nobility.

That is why, I presume, that with modern knowledge about genetics, Royals are marrying out.

Well, it is happening in England now, and has happened in Norway.

The genetics of inbreeding are simple. If you win the lottery it can even enhance traits. Think the crazy Targaryans in Game of Thrones. Equally likely and more deadly is the chance of two defective recessive genes combining.

Some mention the muslim world. In many countries cousin marriage is the norm. AND, for generation through generation. WHich of course quadruples the chance of a bad gene match. This is a “hidden” secret in Europe, where newborns from say, Pakistan have a lot higher rate of birth defects.

Sad all together. Do not have sex with your cousin :P

From a legal standpoint, the federal courts have been overturning state definitions of marriage. This means that legally speaking, they are setting legal precedents that the states have no right or legal authority to define marriage.

So with that legal reasoning established, it seems to me just a matter of time until we have legal polygamy, cousin marriage, brother/sister, and groups of people claiming marriage rights.

This is an important point. If the courts are ruling that states cannot define marriage, then there is no definition of marriage. Which means that polygamy, triads, group marriage will eventually be legally recognized.

Dresie and Casie, twins living in rural South Africa.

Photographer Roger Ballen liked to photograph subjects that are reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch. These two have a mental and physical handicap.

Considering that hardly any of mine were female, that wasn’t an issue for me, and those that were female were older and already married to someone else anyways, so no problem.

Many horror stories of Habsburg inbreeding, including “Charles the Bewitched”. Keeping the power & the money in the family has a serious downside.

Pakis are said to be 70% inbred (products of cousin-marriage). Most muzzie nations are also highly inbred.

Combine that with a demonic “religion” and a steady diet of adrenalin-soaked halal meat (animals are fear crazed at the moment of slaughter under halal), and the violent outcomes number in the tens of millions.

Muslims do it.

All the time.

And it is the cause of a lot of retardation. But then, so is the koran. Hard to separate out the 2 causes of mass mental retardation in the muslim populations.
