I want to marry my cousin...

Well, not really. But maybe!
Can you marry your cousin? It's an interesting question.
In some states, YES, you CAN marry your first cousin! In other states - it's a no-no, forbidden.
Now HOW and WHY was this state of affairs (or marriages, be it whatever) allowed to exist? How and why did states HAVE THE RIGHT to determine under what conditions marriage was allowable?
Because it was RECOGNIZED by the federal government that equal protection WAS NOT VIOLATED by such marriages!
Thoughts? Ideas?
(btw, my cousin is kind of cute, but she's just not my type...) ;-)

Your cousin is only “kind of cute”? Now you’ll be in trouble if she reads that.

Muslims do it. And, then can divorce them just by telling them they’re divorced. Ain’t Sharia Law wonderful?

In Islamic countries you and your brother could marry each other’s daughters.

I think, if I read this right, the real point is that previous SCOTUS decisions on the question of who may marry were left to the states...

In Islamic countries you and your brother could marry each others daughters. I think that makes normal genealogical relations very confusing. The business analogy would be Japanese keiretsu, or Korean chaebol. It's fun at first, but there are downsides.

Now that we are on the verge of the Supreme Court declaring a constitutional right to homosexual marriage, other marriage restrictions such as this cousin ban, will eventually fall. All it takes is for pressure groups to force the issue through the courts.
The liberals laugh and ridule anyone who has suggested that homosexual marriage will lead to polygamy or any other consequences. We will see. The underlying concept in homosexual marriage court cases has been that consenting adults who choose to live their lives together are entitled to marriage. The same concept can be applied to polygamy, incestuous marriage, group marriage ..... We will see in years ahead how far the liberals push this.
