Soda causes our cells to age as much as smoking does, study finds
FoxNews ^ | October 21, 2014

Drink a 20-ounce soda daily, and you may be causing your cells to age as much as they would if you smoked, a study suggests. Researchers investigated DNA from 5,309 adults, focusing on telomeres, the caps on the ends of our cells' chromosomes, Time reports.

Funny how studies never show the negative aspects of gay sex, smoking pot, vegan diets or any other predominately liberal lifestyle component

They do but they are not presented with much fanfare. The point is to take the joy out of life for NORMAL people and to instill a vague sense of guilt for doing something "naughty" which then inhibits our natural instinct to say something is wrong.

After all we had a pop with dinner, who are we to say that sodomy is wrong?

Once you realize what they are doing you can laugh at them and continue with your life.

When I was younger I soaked one single rice crispie in beer and gave it to a gerbil. The gerbil ate it and did act a little drunk. Didn’t see any lasting harm, though.

cell lifespan is determined by telomere length. once they are very short cells will no longer regenerate and commit aptosis. there are things people can do to extend short telomeres, and also to prevent telomeres from reducing down so fast. It winds up extending the life of organisms. the last studies I remember reading about this a couple years ago were pretty straightforward in their causality.

http://www.nature.com/news/2010/101128/full/news.2010.635.html

besides there are foods that can increase telomerase, you don’t have to buy a hyped enzyme product. vitamin d, omega-3 oils, folic acid/folate, vitamins b12, c and e, all can help your body increase telomerase production naturally.

orange juice in oranges= ph at 3.5

beer -ph at 4 to 4.5

wine = ph at 2.9 to 3.9

gastric acid 1.5 to 3.5

chili - 2.8 to 3.7

apple cider - 2.9 to 3.3 apples=3.5

in short there are lots of food that are good for you with high acid counts. Now sodas don’t have any minerals or vitamins the way other high acids food do. PH alone isn’t what makes sodas dangerous but rather that they don’t replete what they may cause the body to lose. Other high acid foods such as orange juice are high in potassium for example so mineral loss is in balance. So your exposition of the dangers of soda due to PH is incomplete.

Nah ....diet soda doesn’t damage the cells according to the report....sugar soda only allegedly ....but isn’t most regular soda sweetened with corn syrup these days ?

A year or two ago, the Nat'l Federation of Corn Sugar Manufacturers (or whatever it's called) voted to officially change the name of their product from "corn syrup" to "corn sugar."

Regards,

You just made my point, soda is a poison, it offers none of the minerals that foods do, in fact, it strips the body of them. Chili is loaded with minerals, OJ with potassium, you are exactly correct. You are wrong in stating that PH alone is what makes them dangerous, it is exactly what makes them dangerous. On the one hand it strips your body of magnesium which also regulates insulin, I could hardly dream up a more dangerous cocktail.

I said it’s a poison, it is, incredibly low PH with nothing positive to offer.

If diet soda doesn’t have the same effect as sugary soda, then soda isn’t really the issue at all. It’s sugar.

Does anybody here believe that diet soda causes diabetes, obesity, changes in gut flora (or fauna?), etc.?

The “tobacco studies,” in particular the “2nd hand smoke studies,” were manipulated garbage and yet many a FReeper swallows them hook-line-and-sinker, so why should these be any different.

Now that the foundation has been set, it is time to move along to diet restrictions and to force homosexuality on the churches. You can thank those that celebrated the tobacco war for these next fronts in nannystatism.
