It is the greatest murder mystery of all time, a puzzle that has perplexed criminologists for more than a century and spawned books, films and myriad theories ranging from the plausible to the utterly bizarre.
But now, thanks to modern forensic science, The Mail on Sunday can exclusively reveal the true identity of Jack the Ripper, the serial killer responsible for at least five grisly murders in Whitechapel in East London during the autumn of 1888.
DNA evidence has now shown beyond reasonable doubt which one of six key suspects commonly cited in connection with the Rippers reign of terror was the actual killer and we reveal his identity.

Didn’t Jack the Ripper send a letter (letters?) to the press? Just curious, how good was his English? Anyone know? Just piecing together the puzzle.

There was a show on TV quite a few years ago. They picked 3 top rated investigators from the FBI, Interpol and I think, Scotland Yard.
None of them had studied the case before. They were presented with all the known facts and were told to write their opinion down. At the end, they presented the answers.
All three had chosen the Polish guy as the guilty one.

Polish immigrant? Hmm... most movies portray him as a conservative British doctor who loved Jesus and hated sinners and ripped prostitutes appart.
Liberals and their make believe world that they are not the obliging pervs with extra blood thirst.

Actually this only links him to one of the murders
but it’s a start.
Pretty cool.

I don’t remember hearing him described as a hairdresser before.
Did they have them back then? I thought they would have been called barbers.

The best Ripper film was the "The Lodger", made in the forties starring the brilliant Laird Cregar as the lodger, the suave George Sanders as the detective, and Merle Oberon as the feminine lead.
The suspense build-up was more than chilling.....and there was all the right amount of gas-lit London cobblestone streets and, of course, fog, plenty of fog.
The filmakers had the killer wrong, but they made the movie right. I still remember it vividly....and you're right....they don't make 'em like this anymore.

He was a Polish Jew. I’m sure the “Asians” in East London welcome that bit of news.
