Yesterday, over 100 people in NJ being monitored for ebola and 100 in NY. I guess they are all in magically perfect health because I can’t find any report that any of them in either state are being tested.

Either that, or I missed something. Been googling for an hour this morning. Zip. So there must be no symptoms in over 200 people, right? Or is the AP News Blackout on ebola testing getting tighter? [Right after the ebola czar was announced]

On Friday, the Associated Press posted an advisory to editors about suspected cases of Ebola, which they’re hearing of more and more. “The AP has exercised caution in reporting these cases and will continue to do so,” the advisory reads. Here’s the rest: Most of these suspected cases turn out to be negative. Our bureaus monitor them, but we have not been moving stories or imagery simply because a doctor suspects Ebola and routine precautions are taken while the patient is tested. EHFV RNA does not appear in blood until after symptom onset, sometimes as much as 24-48 hours after.

When the media talks abut “testing” of asymptomatic people, I have no idea what they’re talking about.

And people “under observation”? I hear “I’ve got Ebola” or “My patient has Ebola” stories every day. I haven’t tested one (yet), because most of the stories are ridiculous. I am aware that some “I’ve got Ebola” people have actually been tested and referred into some sort of observation status.

Local public health bureaucrats are like all other bureaucrats. Risk-averse (to perceived risk) and alive to possible future budget gains. I bet you anything that a five-minute interview of the “over 200 people” being “monitored for Ebola” would send 99% of them home.

Just my opinion, understand, but I predict zero indigenous cases (non-arrivals from the hot zone, not including HCWs caring for Craig Spencer) in 30 days.

But, as they say, that’s why they play the games. We’ll see.

Based on CDC guidelines, she was considered to be a low risk. "She did not have any known contact with Ebola patients," Hedberg said.

Bookmark until we know if she has Ebola. It sounds like she didn't have contact with anyone with symptoms.

The victim has been placed in isolation under high security in an army training hospital in Saint-Mande near Paris

PARIS, France – France is treating a United Nations employee who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone, the health ministry said on Sunday, November 2.

“This person, who worked in Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola, has undergone a secure medical evacuation by specialized aircraft,” the ministry said in a statement.

The victim has been placed in isolation under high security in an army training hospital in Saint-Mande near Paris.

A French nurse, who worked for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Liberia, was treated for Ebola at the same hospital in September and recovered.

Despite around 500 reports of possible Ebola infections in France since June, not one has so far tested positive, the ministry added.

France has 12 research hospitals ready to take in suspected Ebola cases.

The Ebola epidemic had killed at least 4,922 people out of 13,703 cases up to October 27, almost all in the west African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, according to the latest World Health Organization figures.

Duh-1 said he wanted to bring others in. Maybe Flying from Senegal is supposed to be 'under the radar' from web searches, maybe someone from Senegal has the bug.

My bet is that the State Department is involved, and whomever it is is a minister of something or highly placed, wherever they are from. Consider we have 23 total BSL-4 beds in the US, and once those are full, care will degrade rapidly (unless there is a cure no one is talking about).

If the bunch who religiously believe the world needs a lot fewer people are involved, all bets are off who and where...those crackpots are more frightening than the disease.

I did like the reference to MSF having "safari syndrome" the more PC version of Scweitzer/White Goddess syndrome, which Kaci Hickcox exhibits in spades. Can I still say that? ;>)
