Isn’t it possible that by the time those contacts are identified, and if they at that time have symptoms, they themselves could have infected many others? One way, simply by touching a surface and then others touching that same surface?

Given the nature of ER’s in urban areas, the victim could have been waiting in ER for some time on both his trips there. This means that the exposed people were those who sat next to him in ER either time, plus all the people who examined him. And anyone he coughed or sneezed at. Over a period of several hours on both occasions. Not to mention his family and anyone he saw in the two days’ interval between September 24 and 26, and the ambulance crew on the 26th.

The fact that his itinerary included Brussels leads me to suspect he was not on a private flight. That itinerary would be included in Brussels Airlines travel stops from Monrovia Roberts International Airport.

Here’s the difference between the US and Nigeria. Once the Nigerians knew they’d taken in an ebola patient into an ‘unsecured’ hospital by non protected people, they shut down the entire hospital. The whole thing.

Good observation. I would add a Liberian who came from a funeral. This reflects the lack of accurate numbers from Liberia, the lack of proper public health initiatives there, cultural promotion of a pandemic and the predicted vector.

Fomites are the death of western "superior" medicine and public health containment. Containment would have been the refusal of visas from infected countries.

Ours is a culture that uses hand sanitizer and picks its nose in traffic. Unconscious acts will deliver the virus to the necessary membrane from a fomite, rubbing eyes will probably be the worst.
