A giant valley deeper than the Grand Canyon is buried beneath several miles of glacial ice in West Antarctica, according to a new study by British scientists.
The sub-glacial canyon is nearly two miles deep, 200 miles long and 15 miles wide.

A ‘hole’ that is filled with ice, snow, and what not is not a ‘hole.’

“...Researchers from the University of Exeter, Newcastle University, the University of Bristol, the University of Edinburgh, the British Antarctic Survey and the University of York, used satellite images and airborne radar measurements to reveal the channels under the ice shelf. The channels can be seen on the surface of the ice shelf, as well as underneath, because the ice floats at a different height depending on its thickness.
The researchers also predicted the path of meltwater flowing under the part of the ice in contact with the land known as the ice sheet. They discovered that the predicted flow paths lined up with the channels under the ice shelf at the point where the ice starts to float.
The match-up indicates that the water flow beneath the grounded ice sheet is responsible for the formation of the channels beneath the floating ice shelf. When the meltwater flowing under the ice sheet enters the ocean beneath the ice shelf, it causes a plume of ocean water to form, which then melts out the vast channels under the ice shelf. Previously, it was thought that water flowed in a thin layer beneath the ice sheet, but the evidence from this study suggests it flows in a more focussed manner much like rivers of water. The way in which water flows beneath the ice sheet strongly influences the speed of ice flow, however, the implications for the future of the ice sheet are yet to be determined. ...”

A hole that is filled with ice, snow, and what not is not a hole.Where does it say the hole is filled with anything?
If you mean this: Satellite data was used to fill the gap, because despite being covered beneath several kilometers of ice, the valley is so vast that it can be seen from space., they are referring to the ice ON TOP of it.

It’s an underground cavern with glacial ice above it.

Hundreds of miles of ice dome? Sounds kinda not believable to me.

So, does this mean when all the ice is melted on account of global warming there’ll be a big lake instead of a rise in sea level? Just God’s way of preventing another calamitous flood, perhaps...

The ice shelf channel is clearly visible on the MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica image map; the predicted flow route of water beneath the grounded ice sheet aligns with the initiation of the ice shelf channel. The dashed line marks the point at which the ice starts to float. Credit: MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) Image Map / Anne le Brocq.

“...beneath several miles of glacial ice..”
Now wait a minute here, they told us glacial ice was almost all melted?? Several miles is some thick ice!

"Several miles is some thick ice! No kidding! Seems "Climate Change" doesn't mean what some have heretofore pontificated on postulated, at least in terms of anthropogenic impact. My understanding is that Antarctica has seen record ice cap growth this past year.

Veteran Meteorologist Calls Climate Scientists Claims That More Sea Ice Proves Global Warming Just Really Despicable
By P Gosselin on 29. December 2013
At his Saturday Summary (12/28 here) veteran meteorologist Joe Bastardi comments on how humiliated global warming alarmist scientists are trying to save face by claiming that all the new polar sea ice proves global warming.
Antarctic sea ice has been approaching record highs and embarrassed alarmist scientists are scrambling to explain why.
After presenting his weather information, at the 7:10 mark Joe gets to the nitty-gritty on climate.
Global sea ice: 1 million square kilometers above normal.
(cropped from Saturday Summary).
Now, Ive got to do this because the global warming agenda is just really despicable in trying to claim the increase in Antarctic sea ice, opposite of what they said several years ago, and now they are trying to deny they said that, is a sign of global warming.
Makes you wonder if climate scientists put water in the oven at home to try to make ice cubes.
Arctic sea ice has leveled off
Joe also shows Arctic sea ice has actually leveled off over the last few years, attributing the earlier reduction to oceanic cycles.
Later at the 8:15 mark Joe again sharply criticizes the shenanigans of climate alarmists, accusing scientists of lying with respect to Antarctic sea ice increase:
Ill tell you what, now I cannot say how despicable it is to see the lying that is going on as you watch the Antarctic ice shelf continue to increase [...] Its just amazing listening to all this going on.
Joe later says that whats going on in Antaractica is just a classic example of cyclical climate.
One thing is clear: climate science shows that scruples are in short supply within the field.
