"The Neanderthal genetic component in the [Tianyuan] early modern human was likely due to interbreeding after early modern humans had left Africa and overlapped with Neanderthals in the Middle East, before splitting into separate groups heading toward what are now Europe and East Asia," explained Fu.
Fu and other scientists compared the DNA of the Tianyuan human with the genome of the now-extinct Neanderthal that the Max Planck Institute helped sequence and publish in 2010. The initial decoding of the Neanderthal genome and comparison with present-day populations around the world revealed that all contemporary humans outside of Africa carry a genetic component of up to 4 percent matching the Neanderthal's DNA; Fu said the Tianyuan individual displayed a similar proportion of "archaic admixture."
Erik Trinkaus, who led an earlier Tianyuan study, said the find helped prove that as they began expanding beyond Africa, "modern humans spread and mixed with regional groups of archaic humans what we call Neanderthals."
An early advocate of the view that H. sapiens assimilated Neanderthals via gene flows in early encounters, Trinkaus said advocates of the alternative viewpoint that modern humans completely "replaced" Neanderthals were continuing a century-long prejudice against the sister species. More than 50,000 years ago, Neanderthals, like H. sapiens, transformed beach shells into decorative beads, painted them, and engaged in other forms of symbolic behavior, added Trinkaus, a paleoanthropologist at Washington University in Missouri.

Fu who?
I have a book titled, “The Ice Man,” which is about the discovery of the 5,500 year old mummy which was found in the Italian Alps in 1991. It is a MOST fascinating story, even as they are learning more about the man and his world. Science is such a TOOL!!
Neanderthal Delight
Rubbin’ sticks and stones together makes the sparks ignite
And the thought of rubbin’ you is getting so exciting ....

People dehumanize Neanderthals in order to fit their evolution agenda. I know you can argue the same for those who believe that God created two humans and that all humans come from those two.
For anyone who doubts that Neanderthalers are the same species as us, I offer exhibit A:
Don't make me pull up exhibit B (Helen Thomas)!
But we stopped bumping uglies with homo neanderthalensis about 50,000 years ago.
We sapiens invented stone tools and started spending all our time out in the garage.
Would be an invalid comparison since by all criteria Helen Thomas was not human...
Neanderthals had a stone tool kit that was so well designed that they used it for 100,000 years.
One could make that argument...
More human than human.
Oddly enough, the Neandertal-bashing got its start from Virchow, who was very much in the anti-Evo camp. His degradation of the Neandertals reached its nadir with his claim that the remains were of a Slavic soldier — with rickets — who for some reason was naked when he died in the 18th c, hiding in the cave where he was found.
[singing] There’s a man who comes to our house, every single day...
That’s our motto... you were made as well as we could make you...
Fu’s on first.
I still laugh at those!
