Ok Pounds to Lose, Need a Diet, Diabeitic Friendly Meal Replacer...Obamacare Employer Requiring Loss

OK, I put on some kid and stess pounds and need to lose it. The Slimfast diet always worked for me but now I am prediabetic and trying to lose metabolic syndrome weight.

I need a meal replacer, preferable a powder that works like Slimfast with much less carbs.

The ideal? Powder that blends with milk, low carb, medium protein and medium fat.

Anyone?

It works well, but it's expensive, due to the cost of meat.

I never found it to be that way...but, on the other hand, I do a lot of hamburger...and omelets versus more expensive cuts of meat. Also, incorporating protein shakes really helps out a lot, too.

Medifast worked for me. After the stress of major surgery I regained the weight and I’m back on it. 12 pounds gone in two weeks so far. Got another 28 to go.

Based on how it went last time, the weight loss will slow down to a reasonable rate of about 10-12 pounds a month right about now. So I should be where I want to be in less than three months.

The trick is to do the transition plan after you lose the weight. It takes about a month to retrain yourself how to eat properly so that you don’t regain it.

“With all do respect, I still think Glucerna has too many carbs “

The one I suggested is one carb choice and 15 grams of protein to help manage hunger, plus Carbsteady which helps minimize blood sugar spikes.

I had the husband in two different hospitals and both suggested Glucerna for diabetics. It works and did work and it worked at home for him.

After reading this thread it reminded me of when I started on Atkins and was looking for information. I have no advice to offer you here except, if you want a really good laugh, go here Atkins Induction and read through the thread paying particular attention to the poster named JJWalker. I still can't read it without laughing so hard that I cry.

Best of luck with whatever diet you choose.

If your doctor has a dietician in her clinic, they may be able to direct you to a product that works for pre diabetic people.

If you're not diabetic now, start eating dark greens, collars, turnip greens, mustard greens, cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc.
Study micronutrients.
What these videos: I am NOT recommending you to become a vegetarian, because meat will become your primary source of food.
But you need to pick your vegetables carefully, so they will help you the most.

I agree. Atkins works great. I lost 35 lbs on it once eating fried chicken and pork chops. I think now they call it the paleo diet.

It will never be off the books.
As you get older, it will become more important.
Get active, either walking or swimming will help.

Try large organic salad. Try Bragg brand salad dressings. They are delicious. Fresh tomato and any fruit to top it off. Lean meats for protien is fine. I found a delicious vinegar.....yes delicious....it is Cusine blood orange vinegar.....it is to die for. Just lost 14 pounds in 10 days by knocking out the carbs and potato chips. Try a high quality fish oil pill as well. Make sure it has an enteric coating to prevent fishy obama burps. Remember...you are what you eat eats! Handful portions 5 times a day!

I’m type 2. Eat less. No desserts. Limit your fast sugars.

I don’t eat much for carbs to begin with.

I'm not sure what you are eating carb wise, however a very low carbohydrate (VLC) is in to 20 to 35 net carb range. This is pretty much the induction phase for Atkins. Most of the research on metabolic syndrome or syndrome X shows very good results with VLC and insulin resistance. Secondly, VLC diets reduce rapidly triglyceride levels independent of weight loss. The ratio of triglyceride levels divided by HDL levels is the strongest predictor for cardiac arterial health. A ratio under two is your target.

One other issue I have discovered is the role of artificial sweeteners. The FDA approval for the sweeteners was based on Type I diabetes. I do not like the terms type I and type II. In type I there is a lack of insulin, hence artificial sweeteners do not effect insulin production. Type II is insulin resistance where there is adequate production but resistance to the added insulin at the cellular level. Artificial sweeteners have not been studied for their effect on a healthy population or Type II diabetes. My experience is artificial sweeteners complicate type II by signaling the need for more insulin from the body. This complicates VLC diets. JMHO & YMMV. I avoid artificial sweeteners and particularly aspartame.

Check out HMR diet. Shakes are very good and they have an at home program if you don’t want or can’t do classes.

What has worked for me is to get plenty of exercise (mostly cycling and walking), to avoid eating regular meals, to think about things other than food, to give in to the occasional cravings for particular foods, and to almost never seriously overeat or let myself get seriously hungry.

I have learned that I cannot tolerate a very low-carb diet. I have also learned how to carefully use fat to stop my hunger. I'm not in the "Carbs are evil!" crowd or the "Fat is evil!" crowd. There is a balance...

My approach is eat a huge breakfast of eggs sausage and bacon...a lunch of a chicken breast with a few vegetables.

For in-between snacks I eat Pure Protein bars (Chocolate Deluxe). And for dinner a light salad with a couple of egg whites and some cheese, but I try to eat before 7, so I don’t eat after that.

And drink a ton of water.
