Minnesota author Vince Flynn has died after a long battle with prostate cancer.
WCCO-TV has learned that Flynn died Wednesday morning at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Flynn has authored 15 novels centered around the character of Mitch Rapp, an undercover CIA agent. The majority of those novels have made it to the New York Times bestseller list.

What??? No!!!!! He was my favorite author. This just ruined my whole day.
RIP Patriot. Am so sad for his family and I will miss his books.
I think he’s friends with Rush as well as Beck.Way too young.
I have never read one of his books. I will do so to honor his memory. Does anyone have a suggestion for which of his books to start with?
Wow. I thought he was beating it. Any news on whether or not they are still making a movie of American Assassin?
Crushing,he was a exceptional writer and will be sadly missed. Prayers for his family.
There’s a sequence to them... although, they are written in a way where, you COULD pick any of them and still enjoy.
Memorial Day was one of my favorites.
But, TERM LIMITS was the first.. and, starts the tone.
The lead character, Mitch Rapp, isn’t in that book. But, many of the characters in it continue on in the series.
I’d recommend starting with Term Limits. It’s not as “concise”... in the writing. Vince’s pacing improved considerably in later works... But, the story is SO compelling. It’s a great read.
Dan Fogelberg??
Did I know that? If I heard, I forgot... Dang, this is a rotten day. :-(
Best of luck in your battles. My lovely wife has beaten it twice in the past 15 years... and, she’s only 48.
Term Limits. Then Memorial Day
I recommend reading them in order as some wrap up a plot point of the previous novel. Two of the novels are prequels - American Assassin and Kill Shot. However, I do not recommend starting with them. They actually read better IMO in the order in which they were published.
I started with one of his middle books - which I got a a book signing. Then I went back and read all of them from the beginning.
This really hit me. He has been in my nightly prayers for months and I thought he was doing well, altho since his l sat book, I’ve not heard much. His family will now be in my prayers. I have been a faithful reader and his books were tops. Thank you Vince! You and Mitch will never be forgotten.
1 Transfer of Power
2 The Third Option
3 Separation of Power
4 Executive Power
5 Memorial Day
6 Consent to Kill
7 Act of Treason
8 Protect and Defend
9 Extreme Measures
10 Pursuit of Honor
11 American Assassin
12 Kill Shot
13 The Last Man
Some stories absolutely should be read in order. For example, The Third Option ends with the story only halfway resolved. It is finished in the next installment, Separation of Power.
It may seem like a lot of books; but you'll fly through them.
Thank you all. In order of publication it is.
First Michael Crichton, now Vince Flynn. Two out of my three favorite authors are gone. At least Elmore leonard is still kicking. Hang in there, Dutch.
So hard to accept, He was a man who overcame so much to become a great writer. He was a true friend of the Agency. I will miss you Vince.
Sad news ping
We'll sure miss you Vince...prayers up for you and your beautiful family.
I’m posting this on all Vince Flynn threads today....
