I really think that both sides would be happier if conservatives did have a place to go where we could be left alone and could simply stay out of liberals' attempts at social engineering through big government. Let them create their big govt programs AND pay the bill for them.

I think if Texas got the ball rolling, you would see other Red States follow. I looked at the electoral map and imagined what that might look like. Red States would have coastal regions, agriculture, oil and lots of room for growth. The Blues would be screwed as no one in their right mind would stay in NYC or LA, New England would be screwed and would love to see the illegals et al flock to western California, NY etc to get their freebies. Texas has a more interesting option available.. Dividing into as many as 5 separate states.. It’s in the Constitution..
There is little or no chance that Texas would ever attempt to do anything, but is always fun to think about what it would be like living with a new chance at starting over.. :)

I lived in San Antonio for four years as a child, a long time ago, and don’t remember my state history. Sure, they got slapped down once, but that was then and this is now. If Obama continues with his agenda and they broke off ... I’ll leave that thought hanging, along with your own thoughts on federalism. And tyranny.

I am in favor of holding State Constitutional Conventions, splitting the former USA into economic regions, and each region taking with them their proportionate, (based on population), share of the former USA National Debt.
North Dakota to Texas could be one region, the States contiguous to the State Of New York might be another, etc.
BTW, if you drove from the Louisiana-Texas border to Los Angeles, when you got half way there you would still be in TEXAS!

Though 90% of my life has been in NJ, MA and ME ... from 3 to 6 I lived there. In my heart - it’s home. Frogs, snakes - rainbow, coral, rattlers, garden and water mocassins, turtles - painted, box and snapping, scorpions, walking sticks, bullfrogs, armadillos, fire ants, icicles and hail but no snow.
Texas is already it’s own country, why not formalize it?
Add Puerto Rico, and Obama would still has 57.
