SHALIMAR, Fla. – When people think of winter golfing in Florida, they often think of a calm, restful experience enjoying the lush, green scenery and balmy breezes of the Sunshine State.
What usually does not come to mind is a sudden blast from an air horn by mischief-minded teenagers.
But such a situation took place over the weekend, prompting a pair of elderly golfers to go ballistic with a golf-ball finder.

They got the idea from one of the Jack Ass movies. The victim of the prank went kind of nuts there too. I have to admit I laughed pretty hard at it.

See, there's their mistake. That shot clearly called for a fairway wood. Or maybe a 2 iron.
Yeah, I dig the whole “nation of laws, not of men” thing and I’m as much for law and order as the next guy. But I also think we’ve let the threshold down a bit too far for things like simple assault. I’m just not sure that delivering a quick smackdown to some smarmy little jackass that really deserves it... is something which the law ought to concern itself. A little instant justice now and then, and we’d have a lot more polite little jackasses.
I say reward the gentlemen.
If this happened more often, idiot teens would learn that there are consequences for actions.....

I’m all in favor of violent or otherwise deserving punks getting a beatdown, but this was overkill. Kids blew an airhorn (and, so far as we know, it was only one occasion; I suppose the reaction could have been due to REPEATED blasts), leaves, and is attacked with metal clubs when he returns, unarmed, to retrieve his jacked.
Shorter version: the airhorn was a dick move, but it didn’t merit a cowardly, 2-on-1, clubs-vs.-unarmed beatdown. On top of it all, the two guys lied to the cops instead of being honorable.
Dunno, maybe the video shows they just swatted him a little. Can’t tell just from the story.
