Anthropologists were surprised to discover that the grey matter of our infant ancestors, who became extinct about 28,000 years ago, shared the same shape and size.
Adult Neanderthal brains were less globular and more elongated than ours. They also grew quicker and were slightly larger.
Researchers suggest that this is because human brains spend the first 18 months developing more neural circuitry, helping them think...
To compare the two brains, scientists assembled a virtual Neanderthal brain by scanning skull fragments and comparing the computer models at different stages of growth to the human baby brain...
Humans are thought to have bred with Neanderthals about 3,000 years ago.

Unfortunately, removing the lead from paint came far, far too late for some...
NOBODY views Neanderthals as "our ancestors".
For the benefit of any who might have missed it, the basic non evolution of modern man.
Where did you get the dog? "She bought me in a pet shop."
I have long suspected that Neanderthals were still around only 3,000 years ago, but now the science establishment is admitting it?
For later.
It's fun to see that the shysters have graduated from the "computerized personality analysis" you used to be able to buy at the state fair, to publishing in real live scientific journals 'n stuff.
Wow.
I feel sorry for the dog, once Obama is out of office.
No need to keep it alive after that point.
Hey, this is entirely in accord with what I learned in the process of obtaining my Ph.D in Phrenology.
Nice, thanks JPB!
I think they muffed that figure, but 30,000 is too high, so I dunno what they meant there.
You picked the wrong logo.
;’)
Cheers!
I sort of figured that. But I still think that some day they will discover that Neanderthals were around until very recent times, witness the “Hobbits.”
The continuation of the article says 30,000 years ago, not 3,000. It also goes on to say that until 2 million years ago homo sapiens and Neanderthal brains were nearly identical. Since neither homo group was around 2 millions years ago, I guess you could say that is true. The wording about going extinct 28,000 years ago is rather ambiguous as well.
