Exploding the “That Wasn’t A Missile” Myth

What appeared to be a missile rose from below the horizon, streaking into the sky off of California leaving a condensation trail identical to the kind that have been filmed being left by a ground-or-sea-to-air launch of a Minuteman missile or ICBM.
First, the Government was inexplicably mum on the topic. Next came a series of sometimes contradictory explanations. Now, days after the event, the finally agreed-upon explanation hits every news station all at once. “It’s the con-trail of a jet returning from across the Pacific.”
There are two glaring problems with this obviously false “explanation.”
First, the shape and density of the con-trail.
A missile launch would be more dense and wide at its base, just as we see in the images we’ve been shown. A jet’s con-trail would be thinner and smaller the further away as it trailed off toward the horizon. We see the opposite in the availale video footage.
Second, the lighting.
In the video footage, we see stratus clouds out over the ocean behind the rising missile. The setting sun is shining on, and illuminating, the bottom of those clouds. On the con-trail, however, the illumination from the sun appears on the right-hand-edge; just as it would if this were a launching missile’s vertically rising con-trail. There is no illumination of the underside of the “jet’s horizontally oriented con-trail” because it is not a jet’s con-trail, it is a vertically-oriented missile’s launch contrail with the sun lighting up the side away from us. Very obviously so.
The Government must think we are at least as stupid as they are if they think this lame explanation is going to “fly.”

They would be unaware of any of that when it happened. It would just be a sudden unexpected large missile rising up from the sea. Many would be on the radio about it.
Now, the event is already public, so there’s no harm in describing what they saw, without making any claim about what it was.

That is the suspicious part. It reminds me of the 90 second Rodney King video where they kept showing only the last 8 or 18 seconds. The really damning evidence is the videos of the same flight 808 from different days. No, the contrail is not the same because the atmospheric conditions are not the same every day. But they clearly confirm what reasonable people already suspected.
It would be cool and interesting - and a little scary - if this was a missile, but the video speaks for itself. Especially when combined with other evidence. But some people will simply NOT concede, kinda like 9/11 truthers or moon landing deniers. Some people just really, REALLY hate to change their position.
I say this as someone who originally thought it was a missile - until I saw the video.

You have to actually respond with a reasoned response when your speculations are credibly undermined. It is you who refuse to concede by ignoring and dismissing those things. You put up a video as a comparison and it fails in several ways to be comparable and you brush it off with a snarky remark. I have explained my positions every step of the way without the insults and considered every piece of evidence and explanation shown to me. You are the one acting like a drooling DUer who can’t stand any contradiction.
Are those mountains in the background across the water in your CA sunset? Is that contrail broken up? Is that contrail anywhere near as thick compared to the vehicle as the one we are discussing?
They are very spectacular sunsets.
That photo above has what appears to be not mountain peaks, but possibly a fog bank.
Heaviest traffic hours, but not at that spot. Asia flights come to LAX from the north, any other flight coming from Hawaii would be in final descent at that spot, and not making contrails. The US808 flight was there, at 37K feet. Funny, its well established that the US flight was there at the time, yet, the pilots didn't see a missile or call it in to Los Angeles center? LOL Its an airplane, nearly the same thing was seen the next day at the same time, same flight.

Your inconsistencies were either fantasies or irrelevant. e.g. It’s a different contrail because it is a different day.
And you seriously suggest that the guy made a video of a contrail in a sunset by facing his camera east. :)
In all seriousness, either you are baiting me or you are an idiot. I’m hoping for the former, but neither deserves any further response. I’m giving this one only out of the goodness of my heart. ;)
IOWs you have no way to say that it is comparable in direction or atmospheric conditions. The cloud structure and the fact that they cover all the visible sky show that it was taken under very different atmospheric conditions.
Also when looking west, from say, Redondo Beach, across to Malibu, your going to see what appears to be islands out in the ocean, when it’s actually Malibu, looking west north/west across the Santa Monica Bay.
I have no idea what that means??
I sort of thought the gap between the trail and the much shorter missile plume to the right and above the previous trail after a stage separation, sortof gave proof positive of it being a missile, especially when it then remained in nearly the same position in the sky, but generally getting smaller with the second plume decreasing from its aft as it continued to ascend.
Probably just an optical illusion like all the press is reporting. After all, the press couldn’t something as big as this wrong.

Since you don't know anything about the origin of that photo it could be a sunrise for all you know. Only an idiot would accept what you have put forward uncritically.

It means that you don’t know if your pic is a fair comparison. The whole discussion hinges on proving or disproving that the “missile” video was affected by optical illusions. You don’t know what direction it was taken. You don’t know if the atmospheric conditions were similar or not. It is of no use when discussing the appearance of the sky if conditions are not comparable.

Here's the location of US Air flight 808 at around 5:00 p.m. http://i52.tinypic.com/2hh11cy.jpgIf the plane was heading east, the CBS (Los Angeles) helicopter would have to be far south of Catalina Island to capture that shot. We'll need to know the helicopter's precise location as well as the exact time that the videotape was shot. If the helicopter was in the LA basin and the plane was headed east, the plane was probably over the San Fernando Valley (or even farther north) and was a different flight.
