SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- Descendants of frontier lawman Pat Garrett personally delivered a message to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson that they're opposed to a posthumous pardon for outlaw Billy the Kid, who was killed by Garrett nearly 130 years ago.

Love the old photos...you can tell from this (famous) picture that Billy The Kid was just a punk - today he'd be a "gangster" with rap pounding out of the back of his beater.
Of course, look at Bill Richardson...he's a punk too.

Here's an old photo I found while doing some historical research for myself.
Its George Custer with his father on the left. He was hosting a reunion of soldiers who fought in the battle of Frenchtown (The battle of the River Raisin) something like 60 years prior to the photo being taken in Monroe Michigan.
One of the little known facts about Custer was the fact that he was a big supporter of veterans and veteran's causes.

What is the date of this photo? (I’d hazard a guess about 1880?) The old timers here appear to mostly have lost their teeth (and no dentures)...something that you would never see today. Custer’s father, on the other hand, appears quite hale and hardy (money talked, even then).

Without diving back into the internet I only know the photo was taken prior to the battle of the little bighorn.
The battle of Frenchtown was part of the war of 1812.

Well, that backs it up until at least 1875...probably more like 1871...not long after the Civil War, where Custer became a hero.

Considering the fact that the vets were all from the south its interesting that Custer hosted the reunion. I suspect he paid for their trip as well.
It offers some interesting insight to the feelings of some fairly soon after the civil war.
