I came home from work monday to find a letter from the Teamsters saying that one of my co-workers expressed interest in the union coming in and setting up shop. After first swearing to find the moron who wrote the Teamsters and have a little talk with him, It came to me that this might really happen. The other day the owners had a labor lawyer come in and tell the managers and owners what can happen, including threats, vandalism, giant inflatable rats in front of their homes and other stuff. I admit that my company could maybe pay a little more, but this is the same place that bent over backwards to advoid laying off people in the winter, and scraped up enough to pay Christmas bonuses. Am I silly to give them a little loyality? They have been decent to me and I bear them no malice. My bosses are nice guys. They realize we bust our rear ends and that sometimes we take a little downtime to shoot the breeze. And if we are all caught up, they even join in and talk about women, guns and life in general. With a union, all this ends. They have to become hardasses because if they dont, they will be fired and replaced with people who dont know or care about us. I am asking the question to all those who have been thru this: What can I and my co-workers expect? There have been rumblings that the company might even shut down to advoid dealing with the union. Thanks in advance for all those who answer and can offer advice.
I might also add that I am not for unions and really against the Teamsters. I am a rocked ribbed Conservative. I dont want to deal with thugs and threats.
This whole thing is very destressing.
Don’t join...I didn’t....but I was a woman...and apparently they don’t break women’s legs.
Keep your mouth shut, your eyes and ears open, and vote the union down if you can. Update your resume, pay down your bills, and start looking for a new job and a possible buyer for your home if you have to move.
Resist with all your might. Don’t ask management to assist in that process - lobby EVERYONE to vote no. Find out how much the dues is & tell EVERYONE who would be in the bargaining unit how much their salary will be reduced to pay that. Remind EVERYONE that the union only serves the union - not their constituents. Remind everyone that there is already a process to have their grievances heard via company policy. Remind everyone that unions are a creeping cancer on an organization - increasing costs which are past onto the consumer. Remind everyone that good performance isn’t rewarded under union contract - mediocrity is the rule.
Do all you can.
If your company goes Union, unless you are in a Right to Work state you really have no choice but to join. The FReepers who are telling you to quit your job aren’t going to turn around and offer to pay your bills for you.
Discuss this issue with you boss and, if possible, with his boss. To hold a vote a certain percentage of the workers must express a desire to have a union. I am pretty certain that number is not one. If a vote is held, do not be afraid to express what you wrote to your coworkers. Many of them may think as you do and, conclude as you have concluded, that a union doesn’t do much for you, that is only does things for the union thugs.
Teamsters local 705 has been on strike for a long time, the union has been busted at that place haha, the union pays 3 people to walk around with signs and they are getting nowhere LOL!When it’s cold or rainy they stick their signs in the dirt and leave, nice use of union funds, they deserve what they get.
I fired him and tried to make amends with her but it didn't slow things down.
It was a bitch of a time; we had to let the union guy move into our office and provide him employee contact, etc. It took six months to get rid of him.
Talk about it with your colleagues, don’t be silent, and don’t be afraid to mention the potential for intimidation and corruption.
The one poster is correct - the teamsters probably sent the same letter to every outfit. Union organizers are actually the laziest b@stards out there, which is why they rely on 1) Gov’t and politicians, and 2) apathy, and 3) fear and silence to do their work for them.
I understand....believe me, I do.
Can you educate your co-workers and managers on the destructive and thug behavior of unions: running Detroit automakers into the ground, making Harleys more expensive than they have to be, higher taxes and dumber kids in public schools, etc..
The fellow co-worker was probably a union mole or a stooge.

You’re going to have two sets of bosses: your company bosses and your team-o bosses.
From time to time, you’ll be forced to walk a picket line in support of people who are trying to unionize and in support of other teamsters at other companies with whom you have nothing in common, other than the fact that all of you are teamsters.
Picket lines are inherently dangerous. If you are ever forced to walk on one, and you will be, never let your guard down. Guys get killed on picket lines.
It almost happened to me once. I had been walking on this particular picket line all day. Against a company I had never heard of, whose workers were trying to unionize. I was bored out of my mind, hating every second of it, not paying attention, walking back and forth, back and forth across this little driveway. Suddenly someone yelled, “LOOK OUT!” and I looked up and saw this full size pink caddy bearing straight down on me at 40 mph or so. I dove out of the way and his bumper grazed my foot. The SOB actually tried to run me down and he didn’t know me from Adam. Turns out it was the company president.
Ask your co-workers, what did the unions do to Detroit? The UAW killed the jobs in that town.............are you next?
DON’T SIGN ANYTHING! Talk to your coworkers to keep them from SIGNING ANYTHING! If the union gets 30% the NLRB can hold an election. It’s up to you and like minded coworkers to stop this. If you have any questions call the NLRB.
A lot of the guys were truly good fellows with good work ethics and great attitudes.
The truth though is, that the Teamsters are a very destructive force for companies.
Here in New England so many companies have gone under because of these thugs.
To name a few....St. Johnsbury Trucking, Pilot, Red Ball, Stones, ....
There are dozens, just around here in the greater Boston area.
I Googled a bit for some items but I do not have the time to weed through the Teamster sympathetic posters who swear by God that all for profit Companies are essentially evil incarnate.
Your job will be in China in two years.
