World's Oldest Leather Shoe Found—Stunningly Preserved

Still, the world's oldest known leather shoe, revealed Wednesday, struck one of the world's best known shoe designers as shockingly au courant. "It is astonishing," Blahnik said via email, "how much this shoe resembles a modern shoe!"

Stuffed with grass, perhaps as an insulator or an early shoe tree, the 5,500-year-old moccasin-like shoe was found exceptionally well preserved—thanks to a surfeit of sheep dung—during a recent dig in an Armenian cave.

Kind of hard to imagine what the idiot would call “old-fashioned” or “antiquated.”

Yeah, astonishing that people “probably” started wearing shoes to protect their feet. Was that an idiotic statement, or what?

As to the designer who is so surprised at how modern the shoe looks, one has to wonder just how many variations we could actually have for the shoe, even now.

“Protecting the foot was probably one of the main reasons people started wearing shoes, and certainly this seems the case for the world’s oldest leather shoe.”

Nothing gets past these guys! Probably only one shoe since the other was thrown at the local politician.

If they find a cave of socks, we’ll finally solve the mystery of where lost socks wind up.

Didn't you know? Left socks are the larval form of coat hangers...

the 5,500-year-old moccasin-like shoe

That may be the oldest shoe that has been found, but I suspect people had been wrapping up their doggies for as long as they'd been walking, running, and hunting animals (maybe three million years).

All these years of searching and frustration, now I find out metamorphosis was at work....just damn!
That does however explain the over abundance of coat hangers on the floor of the walk in closet.

“Last of the Breed” by Louis L’Amour
I never got into Western fiction, and thus was not really a L'Amour fan, but I gotta say Last of the Breed was an awesome read, and it resonates with me 20 years after reading it. It's one of those books I will force my children to read against their will, for their betterment.

“Last of the Breed”. A great book. I’ve read it about three times. Needless to say, it’s one of my favorites. I wish Louis could have gotten around to writing the sequel.
