Emory scientists have discovered that simple peptides can organize into bi-layer membranes. The finding suggests a missing link between the pre-biotic Earths chemical inventory and the organizational scaffolding essential to life.
Weve shown that peptides can form the kind of membranes needed to create long-range order, says chemistry graduate student Seth Childers, lead author of the paper recently published by the German Chemical Societys Angewandte Chemie. Whats also interesting is that these peptide membranes may have the potential to function in a complex way, like a protein.
>
In addition to providing clues to the origins of life, the findings may shed light on protein assemblies related to Alzheimers disease, Type 2 diabetes, and dozens of other serious ailments.

The finding suggests a missing link between the pre-biotic Earths chemical inventory and the organizational scaffolding essential to life. Bull. Crap. Explain a mechanism for homochirality (all amino acids in life are "left handed") and I will be impressed. Without that, there is no compelling evidence for a mechanistic origin of life.

Still doesn't explain the emergence of information.
Five components necessary for there to be information:

   - Code - that is mutually understandable
- Rules - for arranging the code
- Meaning - assigned to the arranged code
- Action - intended from the information
- Purpose
This requires intelligence to generate...not a potential property of pure matter. And this is the real "missing link"

And riptides will link you to missing life. There must be some scientific parallelism connection here.
