Man claims he ate, drank nothing for 70 years

SCIENTISTS are studying an 82-year-old man who claims he has not had any food or drink for 70 years.

Prahlad Jani’s claims are being put to the test at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where he is being closely monitored and studied by India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, which believes he may have a quality which could help save lives, The Telegraph reports.

He has so far spent six days without food or water under the strict observation of doctors who say his body is yet to show any signs of hunger or dehydration.

Mr Jani is regarded as a "breatharian" who can live a "spiritual life-force" alone. He believes he is sustained by the "elixir" of a goddess.

The research organisation believes Mr Jani could hold the key to helping soldiers or disaster victims survive without food for longer periods in times of crisis.

"If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science," said Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.

"We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all."

However, others have dismissed Mr Jani as a "village fraud".

Leading Australian nutritionist, Dr Joanna McMillan Price, said the study was a dangerous and pointless exercise.

"What’s the point? To show spiritual strength? You would struggle to go for more than a week without water and without food, your body starts to break down muscle, eventually attacking the heart muscles needed to provide energy to the brain until ultimately you have a heart attack and you die," she said.

All that I ask is that you take a look

It violates the laws of physics. It is impossible. He would be a human perpetual motion machine. If it exists, then our universe does not.

To answer your reply with the best that I have would take more time than I have now.

A lady wants to meet me at a karaoke club, so I am gone!

AAAUUUUMMMMMM You will see people sing, but they will not be singing by any earthly definition. The band will play, but there will be no band. And after you have drunk the soma, the lady will transform into a beautiful apparition only to fade away when you awake. I have spoken. So it shall come to pass! AAAAUUUUMMMM Mane Padme AAAAAUUUUUUMMMMM!

This has been documented before. Read Auto Biography of a Yogi

No Yogi went 70 years without pronouncing anything right.

Make sure drop bread crumbs on the ground as you go, so you can find your way back.

“Who’s law is that? Like I said, read Auto Biography of a Yogi.”

Dude. Unsuspend your disbelief. Some Fakir writes something to sell to his followers...

This guy needs to be locked in a cell for two weeks incommunicado and without human contact. We’ll see what shape he’s in then.

It violates the laws of physics. It is impossible. He would be a human perpetual motion machine. If it exists, then our universe does not.

The idea is that the yogis can draw energy from the spiritual universes and thus can learn to live without taking energy from this particular material universe. I suppose an atheist would call it impossible, but a Christian should understand the concept, even if he is likely to condemn the yogi's energy sources as demonic because he doesn't really believe God would ever do that for him. :)

Test his breath for CO2.

Conservation of mass should work also.

Cheers!

Now that is funny......:O)

I once went on a 7 day fast and allowed myself only 2 glasses of water a day...The third day, you lose your appetite, and when breaking such a fast you have to start out eating bouillon soup...the stomach for some reason and the taste buds almost go to sleep...

Well to tell the truth it was Mrs. Grass noodle soup, and only taking a few of the noodles...everything returned to normal a couple of days later...
