What are you making for Easter Dinner?

Posted on 03/30/2010 8:10:58 PM PDT by HungarianGypsy

Every year we go to my husband's aunts house. Lately, I am lazy and we unexpectedly have a new dog. So, we are staying home and hopefully we can make a picnic in the backyard. It has been a long time since I started a foodie thread, so what are your plans/recipes for Easter dinner?

Damn. Sounds good.

The first few years after converting to Judaism I tried like heck to find a kosher ham for Passover. No luck though. : )

I vote for the ham. (Unless you’re planning to invite some muzzies over.)

I’ll be flying all day — whatever they are serving in 1st Class, that’s Easter Dinner I suppose.

American Staffordshire mix. She showed up in our backyard a few weeks ago. We posted ads and fliers, walked the neighborhood and no one had ever seen her. This nearly six weeks after our lab mix was hit by a car. This new dog decided to adopt us. The joke in our family tonight is what if our old dog was actually the father of the new?

Some helpful Freepers gave some great advice and she has been quite wonderful lately.

LOL garandgal.
I bought the dastardly little things for all of my grandchildren: asked my seven year old GD if she liked them whilst we were dying eggs yesterday.(in anticipation of stuffing her Easter basket with them on Sunday AM).
She said no, she hates them.
I have to agree: they are pure sugar and have no taste.
Would your husband like mine? I have four packages to auction off on E-Bay. Two chicks and two bunnies in assorted colors.
Maybe I could mix them into the fruit salad and noone would notice. If I chopped them up and added sour cream?

I used to make that dish when teams of people met here to go “flyering”. One year we had a bunch of college kids from Wisconsin Lutheran on our team because they had to earn volunteer points for their political science class. They didn’t know what to do with a hot breakfast! They were polite, but you tell they were not accustomed to breakfast at 5 AM. LOL.

Traditionally my current wife (aka my first wife) did a ham dinner for our 2 kids and their families but there has been a serious upheaval so we have been dining alone for most holidays for a year and a half. We haven’t decided what is on tap for Sunday but our dear old retired Pastor died last Sunday night and that adds a degree of additional gloom for us...

I'm fixing a Pot Roast with sliced onions and a homemade BBQ sauce. It's one of hubby's favorite dishes that his Mama used to make. I'm also planning to make an Asparagus Casserole, maybe some Scalloped Potatoes, and some homemade rolls.

We're having our oldest son, his new wife and her parents over for dinner. Mom in law called today to ask what she could bring, so I'll have her bring some dessert. I was planning to make some chocolate bunnies, and Goldbrick Eggs (Egg shapes made of chocolate mixed with chopped pecans) so they could take some home, after dinner.

I wouldn't. The family might think that you've gone crazy and added some sort of plastic to your salad...no need to spend Easter Sunday with them wondering if you've gone 'round the bend...LOL!

“there has been a serious upheaval”...
codeword for ?
To me, it might mean that they weren’t behaving and have lost the “right” to be in your presence at the current time.
:-) Sometimes, less is more!
Sorry about losing your Pastor.

Cheese and Sausage Breakfast Casserole
That is one of my favorites! Never done it for Easter though. We will have ham, deviled eggs, slaw, rolls, cheesey potatoes and the best carrot cake in the world.

Congratulations on the new dog. I hope you named him “Lucky”. And condolences on the loss of your previous dog. That must hurt.

As to your original question, I haven’t even thought about it. I think we’ll go to brunch after church and then we’ve been invited to share leftovers from a neighbor’s family dinner at her at 5 PM. These will be heavy leftovers, so I don’t suppose I’ll cook at all.
