Climate change might have helped bring about the fall of the ancient Khmer civilization in Angkor, Cambodia, nearly 600 years ago, new research suggests.

Historians have given various explanations for the fall of the empire that stretched across much of Southeast Asia between the ninth and 14th centuries (801 to 1400), from land overexploitation to conflict with rival kingdoms. But the new study offers strong evidence that two severe droughts, punctuated by bouts of heavy monsoon rain, could have weakened the empire by shrinking water supplies for drinking and agriculture, and damaging Angkor's vast irrigation system, which was central to its economy

In the 60’s the cause would have been pesticides.

In the 70’s the cause would have been cancer.

In the 80’s the cause would have been ozone depletion.

In the 90’s the cause would have been...

When you’re a hammer, all problems/solutions look like nails. Only the hammers have changed.

Excluding the BS wacko enviro argument off the top, I’ll note that China occupied Vietnam for 800+ years beginning about 150 or so B.C. My guess is that China is also the answer to the end of the Khmer and the Angkor Wat group; probably swallowed by China and forced into slave labor in China.

I believe I have reached the breaking point of hearing the phrase “Climate Change”. More tiring to hear than “synergy” and “going green”.

Say it too much it loses its punch. Just start correcting people when they say that, “Oh, you mean the Climate Change HOAX” and just don’t let it go. They’ll stop talking to you about it.

“China” consists of many different groups of people. You can still go to areas where the city next door doesn’t speak the same language as the one you just left. It’s a lot looser configuration of people than we’re led to believe.

In the end Angkor fell for the same reason Rome fell. The invaders destroyed or diverted the outside water delivery systems.
