I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

The words are exact and in their current manuals. They are explicit and implicit but, I think we know what is meant by:
Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained that faith is part of the fertile ground that nourishes conversion:
“The first seeds of conversion begin with an awareness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a desire to know the truth concerning His restored Church.
‘Let this desire work in you’ (Alma 32:27). A desire to know the truth is like a seed which grows in the fertile ground of faith, patience, diligence and
long-suffering (see Alma 32:27–41). . . .

The Church of Christ Latter Day Saints makes no pretense as to who their target market is for conversion.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks taught that conversion requires a complete willingness to give up all practices contrary to the teachings of the restored
gospel:
“The gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to change. ‘Repent’ is its most frequent message, and repenting means giving up all of our practices—
personal, family, ethnic, and national—that are contrary to the commandments of God. The purpose of the gospel is to transform common
creatures into celestial citizens, and that requires change” (in Conference Report, Oct. 2003, 39; or Ensign, Nov. 2003, 37).

I can easily see it and understand exactly why those are the only areas they are getting converts. I do remember reading a few years ago that their retention rate for converts in So America past one year was less than 30%, so they would need to have a lot of numbers to show any growth.

In fact, LDS missionaries search out opportunities for conversion in the less educated parts of the world where illiteracy is extremely high.

I see plenty of Mormon missionaries biking around affluent areas in our county and state as well.

Do you have any link **proving** that the Mormon church specifically ( with determination) discriminates against the wealthy?

As for baptisms, I know in my denomination, that it is the wealthy who are the least likely to join our church. I bet this is true for other Christian churches. Naturally, those who are the most comfortable with their lives are the least likely to see a reason to change.

I had a patient once who was an Episcopal priest. He said that his church was declining in the U.S. but that numbers of new converts in Africa were exploding off the charts. He said, “Here in the U.S. life is too comfortable. In Africa the choice is clear: Christianity or brutal barbarism.” ( paraphrasing.

Honestly, there is plenty to disagree with concerning the Mormon Church....but,...Geeze! If you stick to the **truth** and avoid made up nonsense, fabrications, pure lies, or outright distortion, or speculation, I think you will have more success.

When I was in my mission prep class at BYU, we were told to scour the newspapers for people who had just gotten married, engaged, had a baby, or a death in the family (people who were going through ‘transition’), and track them down if at all possible because they were more likely to convert.

IMO, the LDS want people who will not or cannot think for themselves. Those who do are often not members very long if ever.

Where the growth in their missions is says a great deal about where their focus is.

When I was training to be an LDS missionary we were told to focus on those going through ‘transitions’ and the poorer neighborhoods because they were more likely to accept.

Now, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t missionaries in wealthy areas, but we were told the missions were where people were more likely to join.

Vendome quoted LDS sources and used good reason in his post. Based upon my experience, I see it as entirely possible and not ‘made up at all’.

BTW, Mormons are not Christians, by their doctrines.

Nonsense! It isn’t that way for our church. We put a **LOT** of effort into Europe and have very few converts.

Well I can’t find anywhere in my post there could be conflict. It is precise.

In terms of success, I have no goal but learn more about LDS and I am having trouble finding common ground with their doctrine.

Not that, that should come as a surprise, they will even explain the differences in doctrine. So they are fully aware of the differences and, in fact, after they explain the differences they will ask if their position makes sense.

Of course it doesn’t makes sense and it isn’t suppose to.

We are different doctrinally.
