WASHINGTON Nearly half the people who need potentially lifesaving checks for the nations second-highest cause of cancer deaths - colorectal cancer - miss them, despite years of public efforts to make colon screening as widespread as tests for breast and prostate cancer. The dreaded colonoscopy may get the most attention but a cheap, at-home stool test works, too - and when California health care provider Kaiser Permanente started mailing those test kits to patients due for a colon check, its screening rates jumped well above the national average.

LOL, you can say that again.
Televison is a direct reflection of the left wing who produces that crap.
Even the History channel doesnt do history any more they are too busy running the end of the world synopsis.
LOL - good one :o)
My doctor told me there is 1 in 1000 chance that my colon could be perforated by the exam. No thanks...
that is a very good reason i am sure...the other is the test itself...i am one that has reached that age...(gulp)
The nurse had me lay on my side with my right arm resting on the bed rail and she gave the knock out drug. I was waiting and waiting to be knocked out and after what I thought was about 5 min. I called the nurse and told her that the stuff was not working. She said, what stuff? I said the drugs to knock me out. She laughed and said Mr. RedDevil you have been out for a while and the procedure is over. As soon as you feel like you can get dressed you can go home.
Like I said, I never knew it happened.
What ever they use works real fast! LOL

When I got mine, the drug they used was propanol. Best sleep I ever had, no hangover. This is also the drug given to Michael Jackson on a regular basis which killed him...(along with some others)
C'mon. You're better than that...Two and a Half Men just used that joke.
I put off having the test done for 5 years until my family practice doc shamed me into getting it. Those 5 years caused a nasty scare until the polyps they found were ‘only’ pre-cancerous. DON’T PUT IT OFF!!
because they send it “uppa U.S.”
It is the prep that is the worsT”
This might be considered too much information but if it helps....
Buy Preparation H and the Preparation H wipes. They work
Put a blanket and pillow in the bathroom..easier than having to keep getting out of bed all night.
Try to get the first morning appointment. You have to be fasting and a noon appt is too long to go without eating.
The Occult blood cards only tell you if you have bleeding in your colon. You really need to know before it advances that far.
The virtual colonoscopy still requires the prep and if they see a polyp then you still have to go for the regular colonoscopy.
I worked in the lab across the hall from Endoscopy and only twice in 20 years did a Dr ever puncture the viscus of a patient.
Never the first time here, nor will there be ever, nor would I agree to it or any other similar invasive test, GI or otherwise for $100,000 (and I am not wealthy). When the Lord wants me gone I’ll check out in a hurry.
After my last one, I was on a gurney in a little niche while coming out of the drugs....I gather I had my knees drawn up, exposing much of my lower anatomy; and I was of course farting like a champ.
Some woman on another gurney had a worm's eye view and started bellowing until a nurse came and re-covered me and put my knees down.
1 in 1000???
How many tests do you intend to have?
Commercial grade ruphie?
I made the BIG mistake of taking an afternoon appointment for my first test. NEVER AGAIN. I was so dehydrated by the time the test rolled around that I had the worst headache EVER and they couldn’t find a vein to put the IV in. Why would they schedule that for the PM knowing full well what shape the patient will be in by that time of day?
none thank you...
The Dr. I use does all the procedures in the morning. I mean early morning - we had to be at his clinic at 5 am.
The colonoscopy procedure is no problem...I was knocked out and don’t remember a thing. However the “prep” the day before is nasty, but if you go on a clear liquid diet for a day before the cleanout it is not so bad.. I also have had a barium enema to visualize parts of my colon that could not be scoped. You check your dignity at the door for that procedure.
See, that is a doctor that cares. I think I’ll go to someone else the next time.
