Pennsylvania historians to mark 150th anniversary of Civil War

Pennsylvania historians announced plans Tuesday to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with a statewide commemoration.

"The Pennsylvania Civil War 150 commemoration is far more than a formal remembrance," said Barbara Franco, executive director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. "It is a collection of stories brought to life that are as epic as the fields of Gettysburg and as small as the struggles of a soldier's wife working to survive her husband's absence on a Pennsylvania farm."

The early kickoff of the Civil War program is primarily a call for participation to state residents and historical groups who have stories about ancestors, organizations or military units involved in the war, said Andy Masich, president and CEO of the Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District.

For those intrested in history of our nation. The name Heinz (as in the African immigrant Teresa) aside, the Heinz History Center does an excellent job of "telling it as it was." It is a great local and national history center.

FYI fellow Freepers. Hopefully this is not one of the endless "who was right or wrong threads." It's only about what happened and only in the eyes of those who were there and experienced it.

If you have documents, diaries or other memorabilia that can help bring this most important historical period to life, please share with the PA Historical Society.

And ping other Freepers who may be interested -- except that one totally obsessed lunatic who can ruin any good thread with his over the top insult spams -- You all know who I'm talking about. `~)

Between all of us, we have a wealth on knowledge equal to any institution. Lets put some of it to use.

"...Hopefully this is not one of the endless "who was right or wrong threads."..."

Of course, because that would debase the debate. However, my family, who originate from the South, call it the War of Northern Agression.

And when I said originated from the South I meant Southern California.
