Meet The Black Brazilian Mother Who Has Three White Children

By Daily Mail Reporter 02nd September 2009

A black mother has baffled scientists after giving birth to three albino children. [Pics in URL] Parents Rosemere Fernandes de Andrade and her partner Joao are dark-skinned Afro-Brazilians, yet three of their five children are albinos.

Albino siblings Esthefany Caroline (l), Ruth Caroline (2nd l), Kauan (c) pose with their mother Rosemere Fernandes and their brothers at home in Brazil

Genetics professor Valdir Balbino of the Federal University of Pernambuco said this is a very rare occurrence considering the parents and two other children are black.

The family live in the slum of Olinda in north-east Brazil and the children have faced taunts by fellow pupils at their school. The condition affects around one in 17,000 people. Those with albiinism do not produce enough melanin pigment, which gives colour to the skin, hair and eyes and protects the body from the sun's rays.

They often suffer from extreme short-sightedness and a severe sensitivity to light.

Look at the bottom picture of the boy he has Caucasian hair and features. Are we supposed to assume that coloration alone makes African hair what it is?

Not only are these children albino, but they have no afro characteristics. I’ve seen albino blacks before, and they have afro characteristics, e.g. hair, nose, lips, skeletal proportion, etc. These children have none of these. If you found their skeletal remains, you would list them as Caucasian. There is something definitely wrong about all this. I would like to see other geneticists examine these kids.

The kid in the middle doesn’t seem to be very comfortable standing between his siblings.

They are albinos. Albinos are born to white people as well. check the link for better photos.

They are having problems with medical expenses bur Brazil does have a form of publicly funded health care. To bad it is not mentioned in the article.

The boy has EUROPEAN features it is true. Most Brazilians (even those who mark “negro” or “branco” in the census) are racially mixed. I see this as a recessive gene from a European ancestor.

See my post #13. Most Brazilians, regardless of what race they mark on census forms, are racially mixed. I can show you photos of folks in my GF’s family that range from blond and pale to brown and “nappy.”

I’m sort of a junkyard dog myself. If I’m around Native Americans they will often see me as related but most people would never even suspect it.

You're both making a fundamental error. These are Brazilians that have a LOT of racial mixing in their past. You can have features or characteristics pop out from generations before. Hair type is of variable penetrance genetically. It's not like eye color. There also more going on with that boy than just albinism. Look at his hands and his legs.

Those two white children don’t have the same texture of hair as the black child. I think there is something very fishy about this!

In this specific case, it is either a combination of albinism AND European genes, or good old fashioned adultery. I still think it was the former.
