Just got back from the doctor, and my 13 year old tested positive for swine flu.
THE GOVERNMENT has issued orders to all doctors to no longer treat patients with Tamiflu unless they are bad enough to be admitted to the hospital. They don't want to run out.
Thankfully, my doc gave it to her anyway, so I am hoping I don't have to worry about her getting that bad.
So, I will be giving periodic first hand accounts of the progression of this thing so that FReepers can hear it first hand, rather than relying on the media to tell you how it is.
Her throat started feeling scratchy on Wednesday evening, but she was fine. By 12:30 today, she had a fever of 102.8. She just took her first dose of Tamiflu, which by the way cost 120.00, and that was after our discount. They won't be making any money off of this, will they??!!!!!!
While I might seem lighthearted about this, I am worried. I have two younger children, and my own health problems as well. Being spooked by the media hasn't helped.
If you don't mind, any of you so inclined please say a little prayer for my girls.
We are all now quarantined.
Thanks , for the update .
I’m glad she is feeling better !
If you want to be added to the swineflu ping list let me know ?

Freeper prayers for your family sent your way :)
prayers for all of you!
A good friend of ours from church also happens to be the head nurse in charge of health and all school nurses in our district. I will ask her Sunday about what is going down around here about such stuff.. I will also be asking our family doctor about quarantines and such on Monday when I take our daughter in for her TDaP shot (DTaP? — tetnus, diptheria, pertussis)
Amy, did your “ 9 year old” get swine flu? Not sure that is what you meant...or that she just returned to where she might be exposed.
Can this flu just be treated with regular remedies? lots of fluids, soups, rest??
Polly
Spank yew, and I had bean thinkin of a visit...
go it in the fridge...
Great pic— my prayers go up too.
I’m sorry ... I just meant with school starting there will be a much greater chance of exposure.
I kinda worry about getting on the plane to DC also. Think I will pump both of us full of vitamin C.
I had 5 tankards of tea today.
Heck, I had my bi-monthly glass of scotch the other night when I found out my well water is contaminated. When it rains, it pours!!
But now, we are all afraid if this has started going around in her school that she will bring it back again, as it bounces from kid to kid there. Maybe we all get less sick from it the next time around, but when they were all in school it was a never ending cycle of colds and the flu and whatever other bug was going around.
I may not send her back at all.
Prayers for your child and your sanity and wallet and everything else.
Kansas.
I’m sorry, did I offend you by taking my kid to the doctor when her fever was almost 103?
Thanks, but I stocked up on elderberry syrup months ago. Never know when you might need to scrape the inside of a willow...
I'm not sure the money is worth it for him to make all those other people sick, but I generally feel that way any time we have a monster sickness in the house. He is self employed so can usually take a couple of days off if HE is sick.
However, if this thing goes round robin through all of us, there's no way we can stay in the house for a month or how ever long this takes.
Awww crap.
You know you’re always welcome...my elebenty foot tall pleasant Caucasion friend
Thanks for the ping!
Lil is in our prayers.
