Here We Go!!!! My kid has swine flu...

Just got back from the doctor, and my 13 year old tested positive for swine flu.

THE GOVERNMENT has issued orders to all doctors to no longer treat patients with Tamiflu unless they are bad enough to be admitted to the hospital. They don't want to run out.

Thankfully, my doc gave it to her anyway, so I am hoping I don't have to worry about her getting that bad.

So, I will be giving periodic first hand accounts of the progression of this thing so that FReepers can hear it first hand, rather than relying on the media to tell you how it is.

Her throat started feeling scratchy on Wednesday evening, but she was fine. By 12:30 today, she had a fever of 102.8. She just took her first dose of Tamiflu, which by the way cost 120.00, and that was after our discount. They won't be making any money off of this, will they??!!!!!!

While I might seem lighthearted about this, I am worried. I have two younger children, and my own health problems as well. Being spooked by the media hasn't helped.

If you don't mind, any of you so inclined please say a little prayer for my girls.

We are all now quarantined.

You’ll sure be in my thoughts. Honestly, I don’t think it’s any worse than any other flu, but since it seems to be harder on the younger ones just be vigilant. My 2 cents. :)

A health provider told me to put Vaseline in my nose

I do that when I fly. Seems to work.

Apparently Chileans are very bright people and our media/President/idiots in charge think we are very gullible.

....even though they and their health care system are socialist.

I think it’s time for you to take some Friday night mommy medicine—crack open a couple of frosty ones. That’s an order. ;-)

My mom said her mother’s cure all was horseradish soaked in a bottle of whiskey; she always kept it on hand. A spoonful of that mixed with honey cured anything.

She said the medicine was nasty as all get out and you NEVER complained about not feeling well. But after a dose of that, the next morning when you woke up, whatever you had was GONE.

I just talked to a lady in the grocery store 2 days ago. She and her college age daughter had just gotten over H1N1 and she said it was just regular flu. Try not to worry, I know that is difficult with all the hype.

As if my week couldn’t get any worse...

We're having one of those. No swine flu yet but otherwise.

Please do keep us posted. I'm very interested in following how you are doing. I know what you mean about being spooked by it.

I will certainly keep you and your family in prayer, that being that you get through it in fine shape with nice immunity from it.

I'm adding your name to the keyword list along with some other something to help me remember to pray and be easy to find the thread again.

Keep us posted. President Bush stockpiled millions of doses of Tamiflu! I wonder why Obama is hording them? This doesn’t sound good to me. Who told you that the government ‘ordered’ doctors not to give patients Tamiflu? The government doesn’t have any right to do that!! Do they?

They're probably hoarding it for themselves and their friends and families.

Just got back from the doctor, and my 13 year old tested positive for swine flu.

Well, so have all the other people she has come in contact with over the past 3 to 4 days.....including you and your spouse.............

On a lighter note, if I contract the pig flu and don't take Tamiflu, will I die?

I am just getting over a bug myself. About a week and a half ago, I felt something starting, a bit of a sore throat, etc. I thought it was a cold as of last Saturday. About Sunday afternoon, I knew it was the flu. Really sick, coughing, lots of lung and sinus junk, sweating, low fever, etc.

Feeling a bit better today, but not 100% yet. Drinking lots of fluids, including grapefruit juice. Still not sleeping well, but on the upswing. I hope you feel better. I wondered if it was the Swine Flu. I didn’t bother with the doctor, so I might never know.

Hers was the first confirmed case at our doctors office

Translation: the first sick kid to be taken to that office.........all others in the neighborhood stayed home, sick in bed and will be up and running by next Tuesday if not sooner.

When the "deadliest" flu hit the Queens/LI area in the late spring MDs in Nassau County were told not to report any cases. They were told to do what they would do with any flu patients....tell them to go home, get in bed and drink fluids.

Don't believe the hype.
