The "old enough to die, but not old enough to vote" amendment.

FindLaw's commentary: In extending the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in 1970, Congress included a provision lowering the age qualification to vote in all elections, federal, state, and local, to 18. In a divided decision, the Supreme Court held that Congress was empowered to lower the age qualification in federal elections, but voided the application of the provision in all other elections as beyond congressional power. Confronted thus with the possibility that they might have to maintain two sets of registration books and go to the expense of running separate election systems for federal elections and for all other elections, the States were receptive to the proposing of an Amendment by Congress to establish a minimum age qualification at 18 for all elections, and ratified it promptly.

WikiPedia commentary: The Twenty-sixth Amendment (Amendment XXVI) to the United States Constitution standardized the voting age to 18. It was adopted in response to student activism against the Vietnam War and to partially overrule the Supreme Court's decision in Oregon v. Mitchell. It was adopted on July 1, 1971.

In his 1954 State of the Union address, President Dwight D. Eisenhower became the first President to publicly state his support for prohibiting age based denials of suffrage for those 18 and older.[1] A little over 16 years later, on June 22, 1970, President Nixon signed a law which required the voting age to be 18 in all federal, state and local elections. In his statement on his signing the extension of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Nixon stated:
Despite my misgivings about the constitutionality of this one provision, I have signed the bill. I have directed the Attorney General to cooperate fully in expediting a swift court test of the constitutionality of the 18-year-old provision.
Subsequently Oregon and Texas challenged it in court. In Oregon v. Mitchell, 400 U.S. 112 (1970), in which the Supreme Court declared the parts of the law which required states to register 18-year-olds for state and local elections to be unconstitutional, Justice Hugo Black stated:
I would hold that Congress has exceeded its powers in attempting to lower the voting age in state and local elections.

Given the severely depressed state of education in these United States, I think it would be good for the republic to repeal this. Hey, 18-20 year olds, I love you guys. But after last year . . . . .

Luckily they’re A) a shrunken demographic (for now, the illegal aliens are coming) and B) have a fairly low rate of turnout.

Simple fix... restrict voting to landowners only.

No one under, say, 22 would be a problem, and the socialist masses wouldn’t be able to vote since they rent or live with their parents.

I think the law used to be as such.

You 'think' correctly.
In the early to mid 1800's only landowners could vote. And I think it should be changed BACK to that too. 'Luckily' in my village we have very few Apartments, (there is ONE section 8 complex), so most 'Local Property Tax Increase' measures fail when they're on the ballot.

BUT -- when it comes to Tax Increases regarding the Chi Metro Area I'm screwed. For instance We in the 'Tri County Area' around Chicago HAVE TO PAY for that (blanking) Chicago Transit Authority - the 'CTA'. That's where Daley and his Dem toadies hide all their convict cousins and relatives with IQs of a stick with phony high paying jobs. Those types of Ballot Initiatives on Taxes pass with flying colors due to all the dregs and yuppie scum in Chicago & cook County who live in apartments. I haven't rode a stinking CTA Bus in Chicago since 1983 but I'm paying for it!

So yes. Restrict them from voting. OR, like we do with our Fire protection Districts, have separate Ballots. It works smooth and would work with apartment dwellers. They would get a different Ballot with NO TAX Measures on it. Vote for POTUS fine. Vote to raise property taxes on others for a new school for your seven spawn - NO WAY!
