Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

Powder..patch..ball FIRE!

I disagree. vehemently. adamantly. completely.

She has just changed the playing field.

Alaska is in good hands and she will help fuel a takeover in congress in 2010 that will have liberals wondering what happened.

By 2012 she’ll have visited most states in the union and the conservative base will be on fire.

Well, then what do you recommend that someone at her juncture in a political career do?

I would say the template to look at is Dan Quayle, and he never was able to transform the image, hammered in place over 4 years of unrelenting mockery. And nothing he could do would ever shake that, even though it was an unfair caricature.

I think Palin sees this, and rather than be used as a punching bag for the next 18 months - constrained to Alaska, which is outside of the media markets which traffic in attacks on her - she is opening up the option to be more visible and more in control of the media image she has.

Is that what she is planning? I have no idea. But rather than being a static target for the media to paint her as hey will, she now has much more ability to shape her image. Too bad the McCain folks gave that so little thought back in the summer of 2008.

I don’t think that Palin’s resignation necessarily marks the end of her political career although her political enemies are going to try to paint her as a quitter or perhaps even some kind of nut. However, if she does decide to run for President in 2012, then her performance in the primaries will demonstrate whether or not she was foolish to resign as governor a year before her term was up. In other words, if she is unelectable, she won’t make it through the primary process and she won’t get the nomination.

I can’t say that I really understand why she is resigning but I respect her decision. She and her family have been targets of an unrelenting campaign of hatred and it must have taken its toll on her. I can’t really blame her for wanting to step down.

That so many don’t understand what Chappaquidic did to TK’s national political prospects underscores the lack of political understanding among so many conservatives and why time after time we pick the wrong candidates to back.

She owes no one anything. I support her decision and her priorities. I am not disappointed because she never told ANYONE she planned to run for president. It’s silly to draw baseless conclusions about her future plans.

The political reality is that Sarah is now free to appear on the state-run media 24/7, FOR FREE, from now until she files for the presidential nomination.

The state-run media can't help themselves. They will give her more free air time than any potential candidate in history, simply because they hate and fear her so much.

Sara 20102 is very much alive.

Your position is identical to the Beltway pundits.

I don’t mean “kind of like it” or “vaguely resembles it.”

I mean identical.

I heard Juan Williams voice exactly your sentiments on Fox this morning.

As for Palin (and I have never been her cheerleader), she addressed and identified your issue by calling what she has been undergoing since November “superficial wasteful political bloodsport”, and she doesn’t want to play anymore.

You must have missed this as well:

“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

We shall see whether she must play your game - which is the game of the Beltway bloodsport - to build and win a political movement.

I agree with the import and the tenor of your post. It is a terribly sad situation for the conservative cause and no doubt for the Sarah Palin family personally. I am sure we all wish her well as I have no doubt she would wish the conservative movement.

Time is wasting, we must find someone who can articulate opposition to the Obama assault on liberties. If Sarah Palin were interested in running she would've made the case in her departure speech but she did not.

We have to get rid of the chairman of the Republican National Committee and put somebody in there who can keep his foot out of his mouth and make the case against the affront to our liberties both economic and personal. We need someone who can establish a discipline in the House and the Senate and Boehner has taken giant strides recently to redeem a lackluster history and might prove to be the man in the house. The Senate is very problematical but that is the nature of the institution. I am not at all sanguine about our ability to hold the line on Cap and Trade.

We have a crusade to fight and we need a fighter to lead it. Sarah Palin has taken herself out of contention as a fighter. We have to move on.

I agree.

The dominant media was just getting warmed up and look out if she ever tries politicas on a national scale. They`ll make her wish she were Dan Qaule. She cannot just quit because there is too much heat in the kitchen. That combined with disasterous attack interviews by Kouric et al all adds up to a political career that is finished.

That said, the elite HATE people who abide, live and talk in a plain english/common sense manner. They call it inarticulate, ilbred, and uneducated. Problem is common sense works and common sense would devastate centralized power in the hands of the elit in Washington.

Obama is the opposite. He is articulate and educated. To the elite that means he is one of them, a philosopher king type who knows what`s better for the peons and you more than the peons and you do yourself. To the common sense man in real town America he is an obnoxious bourgeois snob. He has no real world experience at running anything being just a street agitater with a fance Ivy leaugue sheep skin on his wall.

She quit as Governor, not as President.

In case you are interested, here is why:

From Here

The Mark Levin show from July 3rd is Worth listening to. Despite what the media is telling you, this is Not Palin doing a cut & run. This is not one of those, if ya can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen, sort of stories. Palin has to remove the millstone of being Governor and do it now if she is going to be a serious contender in 2012. The frivolous ethics lawsuits against her coming from Obama operatives is costing her a fortune, even though she has won 15 out of 15 cases. She can’t hold up a salmon without being sued for breaking some ethics rule. She can’t leave the State, without being hit with more charges. How is she going to compete with the old Republican horses if she is tied down in Alaska. She can’t.

Listen to Levin show archive here.

http://rope.zmle.fimc.net/player/player.html?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpodloc.andomedia.com%2FdloadTrack.mp3%3Fprm%3D2069xhttp%3A%2F%2Fcitadelcc.vo.llnwd.net%2Fo29%2Fnetwork%2FLevin%2FMP3%2Flevin07032009.mp3>

Did she quit? No, she stepped down for the good of her State and the USA. She is the real deal and cared for more her country than self.

J hope you understand that the left want you to believe she is a Quitter.

I'm there.

I heard her words, loud and clear. I know the weight of the lawsuits against her...it is NUTS! And expensive.

We will pray her up, we will support her, we will pay to hear her speak and we will believe that her lt. gov will continue to carry out her policies for her State. What she accomplished in a couple of years is nothing short of AMAZING.

Sarah is smarter than ALL of the MSN put together and stirred into the festering rot it is.

Sarah will ALWAYS win against them. The truth is on FIRE within her and it is catching!

Yeah, just like she was done when she resigned as Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

She goes by no ones playbook and has tremendous political instincts and courage as opposed to all the professional hand-wringers and pantywaists. The libs and Vichys will soon realize what a natural force for conservatism this woman really is.

She didn't “quit” if there are no more major issues at stake in Alaska which her team can't take care of.
If one moves up to an expanded situation, one has to let go of the old.
With the 2010 election for the Congressional seats just over a year away, if she wants to speak nationally and make a difference, help conservative candidates get elected, she should quit the governorship now. We need her now to help install some roadblocks to the Obama agenda.

SARAH’S HIGHER CALLING:

Sarah Palin would do more for the nation - in my opinion – by taking over the RNC and kick Steele to the curb. She could get much more done for this nation as opposed to running for office - but that could come later...

This would:

* Bring conservative principles back to the RNC (small government, get government out of our lives, lower taxes, 2nd amendment support, state's rights, small business support, lower taxes, strong defense, no-nonsense foreign policies). Conservatism works every time it is tried.

* She could be a credible spokesperson for energy, drilling, etc in light of sane environmental initiatives.

* She could, on a daily basis, take the wind out of Barry's Marxist sails on a host of his anti-American issues (bank take-overs, nationalization of large sectors of the economy, socialism, class warfare, generational theft, bigger government, job killing). Her media appeal would take away from the daily barrage of "new plans" put out ad nauseum by Barry, Rahm, Steffy, and 'Astro-Turf' Axelrod. She would be a countervailing force to the crap we get from the White Crib on a nearly hourly basis. If Republicans embraced the Twitter, Facebook, MySpace internet viral communications, it would be a direct hit against Barry's minions.

* She could - and this is the biggest reason she should take over the RNC - help with a 1994-esque take-over of both houses and start blocking the hopey-dopey-changey-strangey crap we have seen for the last 6 months.

The Presidency would be OK for her later on, but short-term we need to do things that set the stage for long-term problems, that is, GET THE SENATE BACK (which will run to the SCOTUS issues), get the HOUSE BACK (which runs to spending and social engineering issues). We need to be strategic, not knee-jerk, and Sarah may be an important rallying point to meet these objectives AS THE HEAD of the RNC.

But I could be wrong....

My guess at this point is that you are simply anti-Palin.

However you can prove me wrong by telling me which of the actual, existing human beings you WOULD support for POTUS. Then we can compare the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate like grown ups.

She is going to speak conservative issues and values all over this country and gain personal politcal capital.”

____________

That is what he’s afraid of! He’s not grieving, Jeff, he’s just wishing for McCain like Rino’s and the same mess they’ve always gotten us into. Sarah isn’t ‘beltway’ enough to suit the likes of BobJ.

We need a third party. Few will even admit they are a member of the GOP. But the powers that be, that BOBJ supports aren’t going to hear of it. They’d have sided with King George in 1776. STATUS QUO!!! Yippeee!

Now that you have bravely faced the unvarnished truth and made us aware of it, please put your undoubted analytical brain around this pressing problem:

Sarah, a charismatic, patriotic, true conservative, with astute Christian faith was destroyed by the media, elite Repubs, and unscrupulous haters using untrue ethic complaints to destroy her governorship and even her personal life.

Just how do you propose we react to that? A precedent has been set, and it is a model that can and will be used over and over to destroy anyone in the Repub. party with a true chance. Mitt, Newt, etc. DO NOT have enough of a true conservative image (Newt knows Conservative principals, but he has too much personal baggage)to win. They CANNOT win without the conservative Christian base, and that is how McCain lost in the first place. None of them can unite the base, as well as draw in enough moderates/independents to win.

You suggest that by "facing the truth" we give in to the media and the vitriol that started with George Bush.

Too many left leaners and just plain mean stupid people love hounding Christians and conservatives, who have become the only groups left that are fair game for villainy.

Sarah is NOT a quitter--she is a true patriot.

NOW, answer my questiion, if you can, you genius.
