The beautifully preserved remains of a 47-million-year-old, lemur-like creature have been unveiled in the US. The preservation is so good, it is possible to see the outline of its fur and even traces of its last meal. The fossil, nicknamed Ida, is claimed to be a "missing link" between today's higher primates - monkeys, apes and humans - and more distant relatives. But some independent experts, awaiting an opportunity to see the new fossil, are sceptical of the claim. And they have been critical of the hype surrounding the presentation of Ida. The fossil was launched amid great fanfare at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, by the city's mayor.

It looks like an H.R. Geiger painting.
It’s about time they found one of them critters! Ya never know, could involve fraud.
PAID for by which media? I’m not buying...been fooled so often by Java Man, Nebraska man....science in these dept’s is SO politically motivated... I think we need to let the jury listen to a hard case of defense attorney, before the skeptics.

An interesting post, but I'd be inclined to name a fossil who looked like a lemur Nancy.
Bull excrement! 'She' does not have opposable thumbs...she has opposable toes! Just like modern appes. What a load of crap.
I’m glad they found a well preserved cousin of ours. But are there not many “missing links” between the species? Would the “missing link” more properly be that which sets us apart from all the other primates? In the user’s manual it says that the “image and likeness of God” is that distinguishing difference. If you look around at our world with open eyes, you see that the ability to know (the image of God) and the ability to love (the likeness of God) are what completely characterize man and set him apart from all of his wonderful neighbors. It’s all right there in the user’s manual. I do hope Adam will forgive those who deny his paternity. I am sure Adam enjoyed the company and intelligence of his primate cousins. However, without the gift of reason, they remained monkeys.
Very interesting
Evolutionists are laughably desperate.
hmmm. Apes’ thumbs are really toes? I’d like to hear more about the philosophy of thumbs. please.
Extremely well said. Thank you blackpacific.
black,
this would be the first of its kind, so that is why it is ‘missing’. 47M was so long ago, the fossil record is poor.
it would be the link between lemurs and primates. Only exciting for those who are into the lemur thing.
It may well be Obama’s missing link, but it sure aint’ mine.

This little critter is tiny. The real beauty of the find is the intricacy of the details. It reveals what scientists view as a link between Lemur and Ape. How that qualifies as a link between Ape and Homonid/Human is...well...completely unapparent. Unless, of course, one buys into the ASSUMPTION of a link between Lemurs and Humans. Then, it fits in nicely. Wow! Another missing link! Why are they always 40 to 50 million years old?
downtown, it sure is exciting and it is a missing link. But you are correct that it really has nothing to do with human origins, per se. It’s the lemur thing, ya know?
