Good evening and welcome to the new week's thread...
P-E Obama is expected to announce his "Economic Team" today - Monday, and - hold on to your wallets - heavy spending plans to "boost" the sagging economy.
Meanwhile rumors swirl around the kind of deal he has struck with Hillary about the State Dept. job.
On all fronts...we shall see...
Thanks for the explanation. If you had used the word spateli I would have had a good idea, but I had never head the world knopfli before. Good stuff!
It is a tradition in our family to serve it at Christmas, Thanksgiving and when someone asks for it for their birthday. It is labor intense.
Over there a soldier's thinking
Of a time not long ago,
When his loved ones got together;
'Twas Thanksgiving Day, you know.
Over there a soldier's dreaming
Of a turkey baked just right,
Mashed potatoes, golden gravy,
Chestnut dressing, pure delight!
Over there a soldier's hungry
For whipped cream on pumpkin pie.
Squares of cornbread, crusts so tender,
Homemade biscuits stacked up high.
Over there a soldier's wishing
He could have one buttered roll.
But he feasts on GI rations
While his unit's on patrol.
Over there a soldier's lying
In a ditch, his makeshift bed.
Mud and dirt are his companions;
Been awhile since he's been fed.
Over there a soldier's praying
That his open sores will heal.
He is sure that he'll feel better
Once he has a good hot meal.
Over there a soldier's hearing
Loud explosions, muffled cries.
Shrapnel killed his foxhole buddy
Right before his very eyes.
Over there a soldier's quoting
Scriptures learned at Mother's knee,
Proud that he's a mighty warrior,
Keeping all his loved ones free.
This Thanksgiving as you're eating
That sweet corn that grandpa grew,
Say a prayer for that dear soldier
Who would love to be with you.

Good night everybody.
*sniff*
God bless our troops.
OOOOOOOO - that looks yummy! But, I think I’ll have some ZZZZ’s first, with a side of sweet dreams!
G’nite and have a fabulous Thanksgiving!!!
Good morning!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, everyone!
Good Morning.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Are you at your parents’ home?
You’re having the family over on Sunday, right?
Missing you guys, BIG TIME.
Did you go back to bed?
yes, we’re having ours on Sunday. I left it up to the girls. Heather’s brother and his family are home this weekend, and will begin their journey home on Sunday morning.
We’re doing it Sunday, so she can spend time with them. I see my kids all the time, so it really doesn’t matter WHEN we do it.
No, I had to work extremely late last night with a pressure test of a new fuel tank design and it is going to snow, so I am staying put.
Sort of.
Good morning. Happy Thanksgiving. There will be 11 of us around the table today. My part of the prep is almost done.
As I was coming down the stairs this AM two thoughts struck me. The first is that this is one holiday that (as well as others) that will not be taken away from thankful people. In Papua it is a regular full working day. But all the Americans (that I know about - there may be an odd stray one floating about) make preparations around their work and have a celebration and a great meal. Usually three or four families will get together and have one. The common denominator is THANKFULNESS TO GOD.
The second thought that occurred to me is that coming to my table and my kitchen today is the woman who WROTE THE RULES FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND RESTAURANT KITCHENS. All public kitchens must meet the health department standards and SHE SET THE STANDARDS!!!! What was I thinking! LOL!
Jean, if you’re reading this, I love you. I’m joking.
FYI, last night I had to use my auxillary refridgerator. Most of us have one. Some things are stored, covered, on my back porch. I figured the temps are so low that the food will keep cold just as well.
I wanted the Raymond episode where Debra slips and slides on the floor and throws the turkey in the oven..no pan...nothing. Couldn't find it.
