Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
It’s still cool here, too, for the most part. We’ve had some warmer days, but the nights are still cool.
ecurbh here...
I hate to ask this of you on a weekend, but is there any chance you could come over and lend your expertise on trying to get my computer running again? In trying to upgrade my Win2K to XP, I unfortunately appear to have really screwed it up. It may be fatal, but I’m not sure, I think I’m in over my head now.
We could offer a grilled bratwurst in exchange. And perhaps a kitten? :)
Erm...I’d take you up on the bratwurst, at least. And I dunno how much more I could do...but I can certainly try!
Be over in a sec here....I’m goofin’ off anyhow.
I just don't know. I've got all summer to convince Annie that she shouldn't attack greycat. A bucket of water on her when she attacks may convince her of the error of her ways but I'll also be doing some google searches first to see if there's a better way. After all, Annie is my first responsibility (sigh) LSA
Feels good to almost be in your old clothes, doesn’t it? I had packed away some clothes that fit me in 2005, but, unfortunately, not the last two years. I had to get their box out of the trailer, because I’m finally able to wear them again! WooHoo!
Mostly, it's follow-up on earlier projects. In the case of the M1A, I've tweaked the sling setup a bit. I like the sling overall, but the straps making the front adapter require disassembly in order to get the stock off.
Midwest Industries, again, had what I was looking for. They make a short Picatinny rail that clamps to the gas cylinder of the M14, and a clamp-on sling swivel. Here it is on the M1A, prior to putting on rail guards (no mini cheese grater for me).
Again, nothing touches the barrel itself, so sling pressure should have no bearing on a changing point-of-impact. With everything all back together, and plastic guards on, this is the final result:
Now if that Aimpoint CompM4 would just arrive....
And I finally got around to replacing the low-profile rail guards on my Mossberg 590 forend with some full-profile covers that actually work. These semi-soft Magpul covers are a little hard to put on, but the final results are worth it.
It now feels round, like the handle of a pump shotgun should. And no chance of grated hands.
I did some searching for you already on "cats-and-buckets-of-water". Proceed with caution.
Does that muzzle brake make the SOCOM loud? OH...BTW...we’ve got the same issue with front grips and slings around here with ARs. We’ve found that the 14” velcro cable straps work really, REALLY well. You can cinch them up and they’re VERY difficult to get loose! But when you need to remove the front grip, you just unwrap it! I’ll try to get a photo of what I’m talking about so you can get a good look. :-)
Awesome 300 ! The SOCOM II is indeed a mini cheese grater ....LOL !
The mods you have made on the SOCOM 16 looks sweet !
I have a Aero commander IR laser designator an Aimpoint Comp M with my ANPVS - 14 snugged up too it for Oh Dark Thirty use. The Aero Commander IR laser is looking for a better place too live and that midwest rail is the key !!!
thanks for the info !!
You did good on that forend on the 590 as well ! Was that the one ya had all the effort with removing the old one ???
Be Ye Glad...
. . .
The fountain grass and daylilies fill in nicely around the bird feeder.
These. I has some. But don't know what they're called. Nana calls them "candles."
And the grapevine. Needs more trellis and I need to get a net on it to keep the birds from getting everything.
Beautiful photos, Corin! The “candles” are Kniphofia uvaria, also known as Torch Lilies. We have some but they are nowhere near ready to bloom, will be another couple of months for us. LSA
Thanks. I knew they had a real name. I think I’ve seen them listed in books as Torch Lilies.
Midwest Industries has saved my bacon a couple of times with innovative products. They even make a Picatinny rail for g'nad's ancient AR-180. And they have $29 GI M14 mags by CMI.
That Mossberg forend was the one that I could not unscrew the front ring. I did three other Mossbergs with no trouble, but mine wouldn't budge. The threads looked perfect, but would not budge with any tool I tried. So I wound up buying a new tube and cap (not cheap) just so I could put that Midwest Industries rail forend on.
The network guys at work have tons of those Velcro cable straps. If you want a side-mounted front sling, there are lots of mounts that clamp between the space of the front sight, giving you either a swivel, a QD mount, or a bit of rail. Here's one by SOG Armory that Brownell's (that source of all temptation) sells.
When I was a little kid, I'd wait for the Sears Christmas toy catalog. Now that I'm a bigger kid, I wait for the next Brownell's catalog.
Still having problems here, the computer still won’t boot from the HD.
I thought it might have been an issue with the formatting, but I also tried having the setup format it, both quick and regular. And I’ve tried all the different jumper settings. The drive is being recognized as the primary master, so I’m at a loss for what to try now. I even tried reinstalling Win2k again, but just bluescreened each time. :-\
Any possibility a brand new hard drive might work? That is an 8 year old drive.
