Tonight's Saturday Night Gun Pron [tm] will be short because there's probably nobody around to read it anyway.

Mostly, it's follow-up on earlier projects. In the case of the M1A, I've tweaked the sling setup a bit. I like the sling overall, but the straps making the front adapter require disassembly in order to get the stock off.

Midwest Industries, again, had what I was looking for. They make a short Picatinny rail that clamps to the gas cylinder of the M14, and a clamp-on sling swivel. Here it is on the M1A, prior to putting on rail guards (no mini cheese grater for me).

Again, nothing touches the barrel itself, so sling pressure should have no bearing on a changing point-of-impact. With everything all back together, and plastic guards on, this is the final result:

Now if that Aimpoint CompM4 would just arrive....

And I finally got around to replacing the low-profile rail guards on my Mossberg 590 forend with some full-profile covers that actually work. These semi-soft Magpul covers are a little hard to put on, but the final results are worth it.

It now feels round, like the handle of a pump shotgun should. And no chance of grated hands.

Does that muzzle brake make the SOCOM loud? OH...BTW...we’ve got the same issue with front grips and slings around here with ARs. We’ve found that the 14” velcro cable straps work really, REALLY well. You can cinch them up and they’re VERY difficult to get loose! But when you need to remove the front grip, you just unwrap it! I’ll try to get a photo of what I’m talking about so you can get a good look. :-)

O.K...here's what I was talking about... We use these straps at work for securing cable bundles in datacenters. I'm not quite certain where we got them from, but they were left over. The whole thing looks like this -
Velcro Cable Tie Entire

The hooked end looks like this -
Velcro Cable Tie Hooked End

The other end looks like this -
Velcro Cable Tie Open End

Notice the "male" velcro on the left, and the "female" velcro on the right.

Secured to the weapon, it looks like this -
Velcro Cable Tie Open End

I just noticed that it had slipped a little from pressure on the sling, but that's probably because I was messing around with it the other night. I took it off, and don't think I cinched it up as tight as it had been before, but it can be cinched VERY tightly!

As I said, I'm not certain where we got these from at work, but if you can find a supplier of really BIG cable ties ("zip ties"), they'll probably have these. :-)

Now that is coming together; brownell’s catalog has occupied a treasured place in our home for many years. Being ~ slightly ~ warped, I use color coded paper clips to mark the pages. I know, but it keeps out of trouble elsewhere.

A question for anyone that can answer it. So I have this .44 Rem Mag Winchester lever gun. Nice piece, handy size and plenty of stopping power. But it is a real shoulder breaker (yeah I am a wimp). I forgot the round existed so it never occurred to me to find this out before, but can I put .44 Special through a .44 mag leveraction? Does it work like it does for revolvers? What I have seen so far leads me to think I can but I am not sure.
