The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Heh, animal juggling, don’t know as we’ve seen that one here before. Good Luck and Ecurbh standing by with bandages.

1.35 minutes is almost like having one in your backyard.

Our newly renovated water park, aka swimming pool et al, will be opening soon. The big attraction this year will be a humonguous water slide. It kinda resembles yellow storm sewer pipe, twisting and turning from about three stories up, ending up in some kind of artifical stream.

Since it’s fully enclosed, recall the reference to sewer pipe, the young ‘uns and adults theoretically won’t be able to climb over the edge or flip themselves out. Once inside, it’s downhill, in the dark, to the light at the end of the tunnel. There is actually two of them, one for small kids and one for bigger kids/adults.

Our esteemed parksguy said he had to make this extra special to attract enough people/patrons to pay for it. hmmm. uh, huh?

Oh, trust me, Not Valerie and I have no intentions of getting in the water today. It’s sunny and in the 70s.

I started cleaning out my closet last night. Got a good back for Goodwill and other stuff sorted. I realize my closet is still crowded from when I had to wear a suit to work every day. Now it’s just for meetings.

There’s no reason I can determine why I need 7 white dress shirts, all the same size, same brand. Especially since I can’t remember the last time I wore one. And I’ve got suits I’ve had since the 90s. Even though I’m only about 10 lbs. away from wearing them again, I probably wouldn’t.

Thepool is literally less than 100 yards away.

We don’t have any slides (we’re a small pool and it’s a liability issue). But we’re familiar with them at King’s Dominion. Much like you described. The last time I was on one I did a flip at the end and slammed my knee on the bottom of the pool. It wasn’t a deep wound, but it was ugly. That was pre-Luke.

Jr. worked those slides the summer he worked at King’s Dominion. They had hand signals for things like 1) snake in the water, 2) poop in the water and 3) check out this girl coming down the slide next.

We saw it yesterday afternoon and I agree...it was wonderful!

Hello! Good morning! Steve is at ORU working the concession stand for their baseball team. They don’t pay you, but they make a donation to your church. Our church puts it in a special account with your name on it and you can use it to pay for things like the the church baseball team fee or something. In our case, we’re applying it to the choir trip.

So anyway...I’m not sneakin’.

The “outdoor” plants look happy about the rain...except for the irises that have flopped over. I’m trying to get thesunroom looking like a room again instead of a garden shed.

Same here, in ‘the olden daze’ we had to wear suits, then sports coats, now it’s ‘bizness casual’. Not many suits anymore, sometimes blue blazers. A lot of still wear ties/dress shirts (like me) the younger ones mostly sports shirts/polos. Lots of company logo stuff is available, so there is that. My ties are all wildlife prints. Figure if you gotta wear a tie, have fun with it.

Our big irises have too. The small siberian ones haven’t. I could go stake ‘em up but then again, I could wait for the sun to dry ‘em out. Spitting rain again. Bought a couple of poppies from the VFW folks that were downtown when we took Gypsy for her walk.

Okay...so somebody’s daddy never told him that you’re not supposed to mow grass when it’s wet.

I’m just saying.....

I was hopin’ for some rain here so I’d have an excuse not to mow.

Went to the pool for a couple hours. Mrs. and Luke stayed longer but I came home to mow and clean the grill. I’m halfway through with both but came in to re-hydrate and de-pollinate.

Mmmm...pizza...

I’m back from attempting to find just basic skirts and t-shirts for to take on my trip next month. Apparently, they no longer exist, at least not in quantity. Did get some nice Land’s End t-shirts, but nothing else, though I did some driving around.

Also the weather weenies originally said it wasn’t likely to get above mid-sixties today, so I headed out at about eight in shoes and jeans and a long-sleeve shirt. It’s at least seventy something now, and has been since early on. I was ready to shed the shoes by about ten o’clock. Ungh. I hates hot feet.

Mmm...brownies...

I’ve been wanting brownies with frosting, for some reason. Don’t usually like frosting.

Meanwhile, the guitar list folks are arranging who’s gonna bring coffee and coffee makers / coffee presses and grinders and all for camp next month. They’re my kinda people. ;-)

It’s actually at a college campus. Not really camping at all. More like a workshop. Only a camp in name.

There’s a cafeteria and everything...so it’s not at all roughing it. But there must be plenty of good hot coffee! I’ll probably chip in some beans and bring my cup and hope someone’s willing to let me crash their party. ;-)

Yeah...well...it could be worse.

They’re probably better than the average cheap hotel room. ;-)

Well, greycat and Annie met today, by accident, and it did not go well. Greycat was by the basement (outside) door and Annie pushed the basement (inside) door open, saw him, and immediately launched a screaming, squawling attack on anything that moved, including me. I was in the middle, trying to push Annie down the basement stairs, open the door to let greycat out, and yelling for OB to come to our aid. He was outside afixing new VFW poppies to the rearview mirrors of our cars. Gyspy was standing at the top of the basement stairs, barking at the commotion, but not getting involved. OB finally heard me, rushed in and grabbed greycat, who was very willing to fight Annie. Lots of hissing, squawling, and claws flying, but I think, I was the only one that got bit, by Annie, and she didn’t break the skin (much).

I had always thought they would meet outside, and I would have a bucket of water handy to break up the fight, this was not what I expected.

And I get madder and madder at greycat’s ~owners~. It’s an office, and they throw the cat out at night, and this is a three-day weekend. They won’t be back ‘til Tuesday. No care, no concern about the cat. Food, water, a dry place to sleep? Let it fend for itself. Why did they even “rescue” it? It doesn’t stand a chance of getting adopted if I called animal control, and it has the greatest personality. It hangs around their office, but rushes over every time we come outside. We’ll just keep food and water available for him and keep out fingers crossed that he doesn’t get run over. Dang people!

Smart dog!

Poor Greycat! Guess there's no way to convince Annie that you need another cat, huh?
