Guard dogs protecting a fruit orchard in Malaysia have met their match -- a 7.1-metre-long (23-ft-long) python that swallowed at least 11 hounds before it was finally discovered by villagers.
"I was shocked to see such a huge python," orchard-keeper Ali Yusof told the New Straits Times in an article published beneath a picture of the captured snake, which was almost long enough to span the width of a tennis court and as thick as a tree trunk.
Villagers did not harm the snake, which was tied to a tree then handed to wildlife officials, the paper said on Friday.

We once had a little German foreign exchange student staying with us. The day after she arrived, she called her mom and asked to come home. Her mom and my mom were both really upset, "what's wrong, Heike, don't you like the family?" Heike said, "the family is fine, but they have huge snakes here." We were like...whaddya talking about Heike? So she took us out back, and there was our neighbors boa lounging on the lawn with our cat in it's belly.

There was an [out of order] sign on the door but I am a pushy old broad and I have to see for myself sometimes. After they resuscitated me I think they did lock it. They explained to me that the snakes cage was being cleaned or some other weak excuse like that.

Poor kitty!
I don't blame the girl I wouldn't have wanted to live there if that snake lived there.

My old karate teacher had a pet python. It used to hide in the pool table in the back of his dojo and stick it's head out of the pockets every so often. Used to scare the h*ll out of the new students.

I don't know if this is true but I heard a story about how large snakes are caught - by putting a small pig in a cage and leaving it in the jungle (- sorry - rain forest). Check the trap regularly and find a snake around the pig but the pig-sized lump prevents the snake from getting (completely) out of the cage.
Sounds like a good story at least.

That's a very nice reticulated python. I know folks who have those, but I don't think I'll be going to anything that big anytime soon. I'm curious what kind of hounds they had in the orchard. "Retics" aren't that thick a snake, and I can't imagine them taking a big dog. Thanks for the thread and the ping.

What's next? I could post a thread about the new love motel for dogs that has just opened in Sao Paulo, but I'll back off and simply tell you that 'stewardesses' is the longest word typed with only the left hand.
Hey, if the game d'jury is Trivial Pursuit we might as well join in.:)
