What happened to the Neanderthals? Check their DNA.
Christian Science Monitor ^ | November 16, 2006 edition | Peter N. Spotts

Humans' closest cousins, the Neanderthals, vanished 30,000 years ago after sharing turf with humans for millenniums. But why they disappeared remains a mystery.

Two research teams decided to try a new approach: Instead of studying tiny fragments of DNA from one of these cousins, they looked for ways to string fragments together to get a more complete source of potential genetic clues. Conventional wisdom held that this task was impossible for material this old. But using the 38,000-year-old remains of a 38-year-old male, found in a Croatian cave, each group now says it has rebuilt, or sequenced, long segments of Neanderthal DNA - the twisted, ladder-shaped molecule in the nucleus of cells that holds an organism's genetic blueprint.

The technique is not only yielding new insights into Neanderthals, reported in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature and Friday's issue of Science, it's also likely to prove an important tool in teasing out secrets about how plants and animals evolved, researchers say. DNA "is the ultimate forensic record of evolution," says Sean Carroll, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "There's never been a more exciting time to be an evolutionary biologist."

Within the next two years, one team hopes to finish a rough draft of the Neanderthal's full genome. This would help scientists answer nagging questions about the Neanderthals' evolutionary history, including factors contributing to their demise. It also would yield insights into the evolutionary history of modern humans.

"We are at the dawn of Neanderthal genomics," says Dr. Rubin, with the US Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute in Walnut Creek, Calif. He likens the effort to those of archaeologists who deciphered hieroglyphics to learn about ancient Egyptians in detail.

The results that will be published this week are "really a big teaser," says Anne Stone, who heads

The Neanderthals are the post flood humans who lived more than 200 to 400 years old.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever to back up this claim. None.

Read Buried Alive by Jack Cuozzu. He is a dentist who has studied the Neanderthal and modern humans and has learned that the head continues to grow until we die.

A dentist? Oh, c'mon...

Once again I feel bad for you folks in evolution land who really wish to be related to slime in a puddle of water in an oxygen less reducing atmosphere.

There, fixed it for you.

What's worse. Related to slime or swimming in BS?

Excuse me, are you sure of this, are you expert in the field?

And for another thing who is sure the test is done correctly? Has it been contaminated while it was sitting around all this time leaching in or out some of the components of the DNA?
Was it contaminated before or during the transportation process.
Because of the age does some of the DNA degrade.

Is the missing base pairs Heredity traits which may get longer as we procreate. Which in the small amount of time of study we would not be able to discern but over thousands of years would be noticeable.

Does the process of copying the hard to extract from a bone have lost some of the information, which by the way .05 to .99 is a small number and in copying an easy error to be assumed as a fact.

Also mitochondrial DNA which is all they can sample because it is more abundant in older fossils has only 16000 base pairs which is only about 800 pairs difference then the 1.5 million you stated which is a lot less.

Evolutionist really want to be related to slim in a puddle stuck by lighting.

There, fixed it for you.

Oh please,

A reducing atmosphere, that is an atmosphere that is without oxygen.

Yet you state it how ever you wish. It is know that you cannot create the dead amino acids with oxygen in the mix.

But hey there was this dirt sitting around and some rocks near by, millions of years of rain fell upon these components and it washed into the sea which filled with this chemical mixture.

Then one day lighting struck the ocean and life formed with its complex DNA and RNA in place, a male and female were formed at this life giving moment. Fully capable of reproduction, eating, digesting. Oh yea food for these critters was also formed at this life giving moment, fully capable of reproduction, eating, digesting, with its own set of complex DNA and RNA in place. Oh we must not forget that the law of mass action did not work at this primitive time. Now in this reducing atmosphere mysteriously transformed in to oxygen rich and let no evidence that it ever existed.

You guys think I am crazy in believing in a supernatural creation. Boy you have a real fairy tale of belief. The religious faith it takes to believe the hypothesis that nothing expanded and created all the life and organization before us. Out of chaos come organization, totally contrary to the laws of physics, happened then but does not happen now.

The unsanitary condition of the primitive earth and random chaos created life. But in a clean laboratory with millions of dollars and erudite mind they still can not create life. Even with a dead animal with all the components they can not create life.

Evolution the religion of chaos and self god naturalism.

Being told by those with a presupposition that they are related to slime and having to pay for it with my tax dollars.

A dentist? Oh, c'mon...

He studies, measures, complies, comparing.

And you do what in the study of this?

How many more years will you creos be saying the earth is 6000 years old before you get around to saying it's 6001?

Who is Slim? And Why was he standing in a puddle during a lightning storm?

Creationist: Evolutionist really want to be related to slim in a puddle stuck by lighting.

RA: Who is Slim? And Why was he standing in a puddle during a lightning storm?

I'm wondering what kind of "lighting" was stuck in the puddle with Slim? And why Slim brought a lamp into the puddle to begin with? And whether "Evolutionist" wants to be Slim's brother, or just his cousin?

You've opened a real can of worms here, Creationist.

It would only be copycat for me to ask when you'll say the universe is 4.5 billion and one years old.

I would hope he doesn't. Ya got your dates wrong.

You guys are funny.

That is a wonderful way to dance around the real point.

You do like it when you are related to "slim" better that slime his brother.

BTW they had to be stuck in the puddle to be struck.

I never give it as 6000 years as a firm date I always say about, or around.
You see that would be considered a generalized statement not definitive as evolutionist are with the 4.5 billion years.

But for you I will start using the term around 6001 years.
