I'm just surpised Simon wasn't reading from a note card: "Yo dawg, that was the bomb. We have got a hot one in the house tonight."

I am so sick of Jackson and that "phrase". I laughed my a** off the night Seacrest made the statement, "Could we have less canine references". Or something to that effect.

I wasn't impressed with any of Kenny Rogers' advice.

I agree with you. He wasn't telling the contestants how they should sing the song; he was telling them how he would sing the song. But, the good ones benefitted from it by learning something about how country music is sung.

Thing is, those who are left are pretty good. I'd really, really like it if Ace, Bucky, and Kathy go next. (even though Ace maybe has some hope with country)

Re: McPhee -- I think the best word is "aloof". I don't think she's stuck up or a prima donna... she just seems a little disconnected. I also find it interesting that most men seem to like her, and that most women seem to dislike her.

Yeah....there's this quality that guys just don't see. It's in the DNA or something. The way I explain it to my guy is I'd love to do a mom thing, shopping or something, with Kellie. Mandisa and Paris seem approachable and nice.

I think (and hope) this cuts into Kathy votes. I don't see Lisa votes going to her. Lisa exuded a much more friendly aura.

Yeah, all the women are wrong and the men's hormones are right. ;)

Pickler--Better than she's done in quite a while. Hate the song, but she did manage to show that she can sing a little. Still swallowing the ends of some of the lyrics though.

I thought her choice was hilarious. Online, there was so much criticism about her prom dress; my quip was that it proved no mamma was helping her dress up. Right in our faces.

I'm glad she (and Eliot) are getting the chance of a lifetime. The rest of them had careers without AI.

Bingo! He has his own style and they need to have theirs.

I thought the best part of last night's show was when Simon told Seacrest to lose the beard.

Was he talking about the facial hair or Terri Hatcher???

I'ma a guy. She is beautiful but I'm starting not to like her. Her personality is hollow on stage. I cannot connect with anything she does.

Kenny Rogers is personification of the adage "A good singer has a hit...a good performer has a career." I saw him in concert a few months ago (something I never really wanted to do, but we was playing just a few miles away). He was great. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did.

But I have to admit that this group is failing to connect with the audience. They don't seem as likable as past finalists. Maybe because they know the show isn't a joke, that winning means everything for their careers.

Thanks, Jonny. I always appreciate your opinion. Maybe that's exactly what the problem is.

There's a great Country radio station here called "Country Legends" and that's exactly what they play: Waylon, Willie, Cash, Mel, Merle, The Possum :) And it's GREAT! So refreshing to hear genuine Country music.

I found "Country Legends" by accident a few weeks ago. It's on AM here. Great music!

Nope! I think she is great, too!

I think the thing with her is a bit of self-consciousness. The way she comes across reminds me a little bit of me in college . I found out all these girls thought I was a total snob UNTIL they got to know me. It was because of how they perceived me. I had issues with self-esteem, but I ALWAYS tried to put up a self-confident posture. The way she hides behind her clothes makes me think that she may have issues with her body image. Why? I don't know. My guess people have been saying things about her being a "bigger girl" like they did last year to Carrie Underwood. Or maybe she saw herself on camera, and she wasn't comfortable with it. The camera DOES seem to add a little weight to you, depending on the angle. Just trying to stick up a little for Katherine, here. Both my husband and I pick her as one of the top three.

I also think she is beautiful--reminds me of CZ-J. But if I have to go with my FAVORITE? It is Chris! ;^)

Of course, I could be totally WRONG, and she could be a stuck-up brat, but I just don't think so. :^)

I know Chris has a huge following both here and nationally, but I'm getting a shark-jumping vibe out of him ever since the whole Johnny Cash-Live-What If thing.

Since I watch the show much later than almost everyone on this thread, I have the benefit of all your comments before seeing it for myself. I think Chris is the likely winner this year only because he seems to have the most buzz, but he just doesn't do anything for me.

I love the song 'Making Memories Of Us.' In fact, so far it's the only Keith Urban song I like. To me, Urban has got to be one of the most boring music stars out there these days, yet that one song resonates strongly with me. (It was a huge hit for Urban. If memory serves, he won CMA awards for the song and the album it came from. I'm playing the song now as I type this.)

Jonny, the day we got the news Tammy had died, you were so upset. Some nutjob here on AI had said something stupid, and you were so angry. I posted the lyrics to 'Making Memories Of Us' and they seemed to help.

Anyway, my point is that because I know that song so very well -- play it often -- I can say with total credibility that Chris did only a fair job with it. I don't think it would be all that hard to do a better version than Urban's, but Chris was not up to it. Partly, it's due to the fact that, due to time constraints, they can't sing complete songs on AI. You lose a lot by singing only half, or less, of a song. Kenny Rogers is right -- country music is about telling stories through song. When you can't tell the whole story, the song loses all sense.

Although it was good to hear Chris do something truly different, and to discover he has a decent voice, he hit some flat notes and simply did not connect with the song at all.

If I had to rate last night's performances, I'd say Taylor did by far the worst. I would not be surprised to see him in the bottom two tonight, and even see him go home after that mess.

I don't think Pickler was all that good. She just seemed good in contrast to the performances that came before her, because at least she was lively.

I'm struggling to give my opinion as to the best performance last night, because there wasn't a standout. I guess for me it would have to be Paris. The reason? As she was singing I thought the makeover people have done the best job with her. She's looking and dressing much more age appropriate. Stupid reason why someone stands out in a singing competition.

When she was culled down to the bottom two last week she radiated a look of absolute contempt and fury...hatred incarnate.
We could give her the Naomi Campbell Award for the contestant most likely to bean her assistant in the head with a telephone (cell or land line, it doesn't matter). ;-

No Doubt! I kept expecting her to grab the microphone from Ryan , "America! What were you thinking! Me....in the bottom two! Paleez! Are you all deaf! Or blind! I can out sing anyone here with my mouth stuffed full of marshmellows! Plus...Hello....I'm gorgeous! That alone should put me in the top three! And, of course, I can totally blow! So....I should win, hands down! Unless you're all just stupid or something! Which obviously some of you, the ones that didn't vote for me anyway, are. And if you're a man and didn't vote for me.....well, how gay are you!"

Time for a commercial break.

He is skating on his appeal, not his talent. Kinda like MOST pop stars out there.

Truer words were never typed... :)

Next weeks theme is (get this) (drum Roll) -- The Music of QUEEN!!!!

I can't wait to see some of the contestants try to find something - anything - they can sing.

I think next week will definately be a separate the wheat from the chaff week. Freddie Mercury's vocals were so intense and intricate that all the Idols are going to have to step it up a lot.
