I thought this would be an interesting thread, finding out the first car freepers ever had.
If you have a picture of it post it as well!
The one that my mom had and I drove a lot was an automatic. I got it up to about 95 and that was all that it would do. Had a pretty good 6 as I recall but had a lot of miles on it.
'49 Ford coupe (worn out before I got it, but it was better than my horse and much better than my fat tired bike).
When I was getting out of school and engaged I got a 66 cutlass. Then when I got out of basic training I had to have a new chevey a 1970, LOL, it was a split bumper Rallly Sport. But my true jump off the deep end was new 914 when they first came out. Mid engine nightmare.
It appears I'm one of the younger posters here. A '91 Thunderturd. Piece of crap. If it wasn't one thing wrong, it was two...
Same thing happened to me with my 1st car, a '51 Merc 4-door.
That's what you get trying to speed-shift one of those old beasts.
1964 Pontiac Tempest.
My husbands first car was a 1959 Thunderbird...that is what he had when I met him...he sure did love that car...
My younger sons first car was an older maroon camarro...he second car was newer teal camarro..now he drives a brand new Jeep, and just loves it...
When my mom and dad first married in 1944, they had no car...went everywhere by public and private transportation...they had me and my brother and when I was 10, around in 1955, my dad bought a 1949 Black Ford, with running boards for about 50 bucks...we went everywhere with that car, ,and thought we were 'rich', because we now had a car...
Myself, I never have had a car of my own...just drove my dads car, or my hubbys car...
1964 21-window VW Bus
Had a sunroof that slid open from just behind the front seats all the way to the back. My brother and I owned it together and we called it the Pickle.
'63 Mercury Meteor ... I'm convinced it was the precursor to the Humvee.
In 1993 I got a 1987 Pontiac 6000 SE. I miss that car, and I would kill for one more drive around town in it on a bright, sunny Summer day.
I bought a '65 VW Beetle while in Army Flight School. It was bright red and had two speeds: 1) Foot on the floor (Slow) and 2) Stop. I drove it home from Alabama to California with no clutch (too impatient to stop and have it fixed). I just started it in 1st gear and shifted with throttle control.
While I was in 'Nam, I left it for my younger sister to drive. She got off of the road on a turn and rolled it. Everyone survived, but she tore up one of her legs pretty bad.
When I got home, first question, where is my car? Instead I was handed the insurance check. Went out and bought another VW.
77 ford mustang... and a total and complete lemon
Datsun 1600, 1969
LOL... poor thing!
