Wonder if this thread will be pulled like all the others. Wierd night hits the mods, too. Full moon?
what a gomer call....
but, the Angels were flat, and Scioscia knows it.
I would petition to replace the crew before the Friday game.
As to umpire's calls, I always remember what Tom Landry used to say when the Cowboys lost on a close call by an official:
"If an official's call determines the outcome of a game, you didn't play hard enough."
I have no clue why the robbed one was pulled. It wasn't even slinging mud yet.
Sciocia is a real class act. I don't want to know what a lesser manager would have said at the post-game.
I wonder if it is the same mod who works Sunday nights. That one is quite the crank when it comes to sports.
Landry flew B-17s or B-29s, as I recall. That's what made him such a cool customer in the NFL.
A manager should have said "We didn't score enough runs to make that call a non-factor."
The ump called the strike and then immediately pointed toward first, and then called the strike again. He apparently also said something because pierzynski started to head across the plate and then immediately spun around and ran toward first. Unfortunately for the Angels the catcher had already exited stage right.
On the replay the ball clearly bounces before entering the webbing of the mitt. However there is no telltale puff of dirt leading me to assume he got the mitt under it.
That's bullsh!t in a 1-1 game. That's an excellent game on both sides of the ball. No one didn't play hard enough tonight. The Angels were robbed. I'm not even an Angels fan, but I'm as pissed about this as I would if it had happened to the Red Sox-- which it did in the 2004 ALCS, but the bad calls were overturned.
Hey whiny West Coast fans
na na na na
na na na na
hey hey
goodbye
One call should not decide a game... Waaaa waaa what about the missed calls against Contreras last night???. Those three missed calls and no 2 run inning and it is 2-0 for beloved sox. waaa waaa waaaa typical west coast whiny babies
I totally agree... I'm just incredulous watching this coverage (now on ESPN). I cannot believe this result stands.
I was kind of neutral in this ALCS, but now I am definitely rooting for the Angels - helps that former Red Sox Orlando Cabrera is part of the team. F*** the White Sox (and "Jurassic" Carl Everett)!
I'd be uncontrollably livid.
And following your example, Pierzynski played completely through the play.
The ump rung him up. The play is dead. The inning is over. Period.
that take sucks.
Could be. I've had it come up on the Sunday thread a few times, too.
Was he ever cool! Unflappable, always kept things in perspective, and always in charge.
Landry was a man of great faith. He was a driving force in starting the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He likely could have won more championships, but he didn't tolerate drug use (contrary to what Pete Gent says). He dumped Hollywood Henderson when "Hollywood" was at his peak, but he was snorting coke in the locker room!
It was time for Landry to go, but he would never have quit. Jimmy Johnson made Cowboy fans forget the way Landry was fired with those back-to-back Super Bowls in 1993-94.
