Why do men want younger women? (huh?)

Q: I'm a woman in my "little" 30s and I am wondering: Why is it that men my age only want to date women in their 20s or early 30s? I've toyed with the idea of posting a personal ad on an online dating service, but when I went through the listings, it seemed that the men my age only wanted to date women ages 21 to 30! I feel so discouraged.
A: Men are pigs. This is my clinical observation, based on 12,464 interviews with single men over the last few years. And it's not only a woman's point of view. In fact, "men are pigs" is a direct quote from my husband, who is happy to trash his youth-obsessed gender.
Now the good news: The best thing about online dating is just what you have discovered. Individuals' profiles can be as revealing as an FBI dossier, but funnier! Do we really believe he keeps both "The Brothers Karamazov" and Playboy on his nightstand? Um, no.

Evolution might have something to say about it. Men who preferred older women were likely to have fewer offspring, because of lowered fertility and fewer years to make babies. Or, men who preferred younger women would have more descendants than the ones who preferred older women. After a few hundred generations of this, the pattern would be well-etched in DNA, and there would be darn few guys who prefer older women.
I think society has a factor too. In many ancient and not-so-ancient societies, men generally had to learn a trade or career, move on up a bit and acquire wealth and a position to be able to support a wife and family before jumping in the pool and getting married. Plus this give the male time to burn off the youthful energy and learn some good judgement. I've heard stories that in the Bible, many scholars do believe that Joseph was around 30, 35, or even 40 while Mary was around 15 or 16 perhaps. Ancient Greek and Roman society was similar in this practice as well.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule and so on, plus character counts so to the woman who wrote the original article we are posting to, maybe it is because of her attitude and not her age that is hampering her. I mean if I wanted to hear constant whining, I would have kept my 1977 Pontiac with the whiny fanbelts, at least in the long run, it would have been cheaper even with gas, insurance and upkeep. B-)

As a younger woman married to an older man, I'm tempted to comment on this; however, I've already been labeled an airhead, a door prize, and a trophy wife, so I'm hesitant to jump in. :'P

I think that's absolutely true. If we are to take what the escort said seriously (and circumstantial evidence supports it), the question then becomes, 'why are more mature women less willing to be emotionally supportive of their men?'
This is made more poignant by the fact that women tend to be (rightfully and legitimately) very interested in getting emotional support from their men.
One reason that many couples fall apart is that one party is either unwilling or unable to bear the burden of some aspects of the romantic relationship (that is, give emotional support), while being very demanding about enjoying (and expecting) the benefits of some aspects or the romantic relationship (that is, getting emotional support).
This has almost nothing to do with a party's sex:it has much more to do with their outlook of life, and their willingness to give.
It's a supreme irony that in my life, many folks I have known who have been most demanding about emotional support have been (almost pathologically) unwilling to give it.
Oh well...

I have a Cambodian friend who is formally trained in Chinese fortune telling. He says the animal that represents your birth year has to be compatible with the animal that represents your spouse's birth year. He contends that for highest probability of a very long happy compatible marriage, you must both be born under the same Chinese year sign. You must be born in the same year or twelve year multiples apart since the signs are on a twelve year cycle.
My wife is twelve years younger than me and we are best friends. We think and react much the same way. We are coming up on our twenty-third anniversary.
My wife once asked me if I wished I had met her first instead of my ex-wife. I said, No, you were in the first grade when I first got married. I would have been in jail all of these years.

As a single 33 year old woman whose dates for the last three years have been between the ages of 40 and 45, this is the conclusion to which I've come....
Men 'of a certain age' become self-analytical (in a purely shallow way, of course... I jest). They often don't see their accomplishments as valid. Being with younger women makes them feel more virile.
As for me, I don't have a problem with older men. I've quite enjoyed it. Older men seem to know that investing time, care and attention with women is going to pay off in the long run. I've learned that older men are NOT more mature than younger men. They've just had time to figure out that the payoff is worth it.

I for one prefer women my own age. My wife is actually 4 years older than I am, a reasonable age difference. I could go 5-7 years either way, but beyond that, I think it would be problematic.

Absolutely....I sure wouldn't want a guy with "baggage",regardless of age.But I can tell you from the bottom of my heart-I could no more be attracted to a 25-year-old (someone with whom I have absolutely nothing in common) than I could a robot. Gimme a guy with a little grey at the temples (or,in my husband's case,a high, tight grunt haircut-all silver),some smile wrinkles and a twinkle in his eye that lets me know, hey,I might have a challenge on my hands-any day of the week.
And I can tell you-I am old enough, and been around enough, to have ditched MY baggage YEARS ago.
As the saying goes-there may be snow on the roof, but the furnace is cookin'!
And it isn't all about sex, either. If the little twit is too stupid to know anything about life, hell,he's just wasting my time. I think the same goes for guys and younger women.

Congrats...You're either doing something right,or neither one of you can find anyone else to put up with you! :D
As for me and the grunt,it'll be 29 years on my b'day in August. Seems like,at times,it's been centuries-but, more often than not, it seems like it hasn't been that long at all.

99.9% of all hunks are either fags, broke, uneducated, or married. The only thing women want is MONEY & POWER. If you got either or both regardless how fat or stupid women will throw themselves at you.
