Still damp and cold here, Meekie.
They did not delay school this morning and it was kinda iffy taking Marissa to school.

I would have enjoyed an extra hour of sleep this morning. ;~)

Probably the throwout bearing and it will fail at some point and take the clutch with it when it does. I'd get estimates on replacing the throwout bearing and clutch (both need to be replaced when either is bad) from the dealer and a transmission shop and a general auto maintenance shop. Then go with the best price.

Thank you C.G.

Did my bad driving caused it to go out?

Think I should get rid of the car?

Even a good driver can wear it out. GM tends to make a fragile clutch for their small cars. Bad technique for stoping and going on hills and riding the clutch shorten the life. How many miles on the car? Fixing it is cheaper than buying a new one unless the car's value is close to the price of fixing it.

It's an '02.

It almost has 46,000 miles on it. I've had it since Aug. '01.

If this is something GM small cars do, then this could be happening a lot.

46,000 is nothing. Look up the value on the internet. Get three estimates. If the car is in good condition, (other than this), and the price of repair is less than 20% of the car's value, I'd get it fixed. Above 20% ask yourself, "Do I want to get a new car?"
