I decided to change my ways. After a lot of soul searching, I've realized that the GOP does not have my best interests in mind. I can no longer support an administration and a party that cannot look beyond the immediate future and see the long-term consequences of their actions. I've thought about where this administration's policies will leave me and my future family in 30, 40, 50 years....and I do not like the picture. I never thought I would say this, but I'm turning blue. While some of you may call me a jackass, I am now proud to call myself a Democrat.
"What was it about President Bush that convinced you to vote for him ?"
Actually it was the Clintons that convinced me to switch sides. They cheapened the party... I voted for Rick Lazio over Hillary in 2000 and Nader. ( A guy giving out Hillary literature on the street on Election Day called Lazio a facist, which made me realize I'd made the right choice from moving away from the Dems.)I secretly was rooting for Bush over Gore.
This year it was no question. The Repubs are the better party. I should have switched a long time ago but I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where Repubs are outnumbered. I was just being a sheep and following the crowd and not thinking for myself.
Who gives a poop about ohiogop?
Imagine being a democrat who thinks he is sneaky, signing up for Free Republic in October, and then waiting...waiting for the right moment to "change sides" and go out in flames.
You had 3 months to come up with a fantastic final post. And this is what you came up with?
I think we're better off without you! buh bye!

Meeky, do you know any Houston area FReepers who could find the entire article about this?
Challenge to Gallegos dismissed
The Senate State Affairs Committee on Monday dismissed an election challenge filed against state Sen. Mario Gallegos by a former opponent who is his former mistress.
The panel found that Susan Delgado "failed to state the grounds necessary to maintain an election contest" against the Houston Democrat. Committee members voted 9-0 to send the report to the full Senate for a vote.
Delgado had contended that Gallegos lived in the 11th District, although he represents the 6th District. Gallegos, who has represented the eastern Harris County district since 1995, was overwhelmingly re-elected in November.
Delgado, a former stripper who claimed that she had a 17-year affair with Gallegos, ran as a write-in candidate against him. She contended that Gallegos took a homestead tax exemption on a house outside of his district. But Gallegos is registered to vote at his mother's house within the 6th District and claims to live there.
This thread is still growing. I'm impressed.
It feels good being a Republican doesn't it? I feel like a happier person. The dims are so gloomy, and angry and hatefull, etc, etc, etc.
Once again, welcome.
Yes, the Dems are growing nastier by the day, as Inauguration Day gets closer. I noticed that the letters in the NYTimes about Bush have gotten nastier, too.
The "fuglies".
Love that pic, can I steal it?
If Bush doesn't seal the borders none of this will matter, we're all dead anyway.
Now there's a ray of sunshine!
They've gone over the edge and taking anyone with them they can. You know the old saying, "Misery loves company".
Either your core values shifted or something.
I will be the first to say that both parties have nut jobs in them. Switching won't fix anything. You know what they say about the grass on the other side...
Personally I think you would be better served being a swing voter if you feel so strongly about it.
I would rather vote for some conservative democrats than some loons in the republican party... I am not throwing out the party though. Not by a mile.
Point and case, vote for the candidate, not the party. If you do that, and you are like me, you will see through the party jive, and get to what I want gotten to, values included.
Just out of curiosity though, which issues are of most concern to you? Lets take those and see just what the democrats have to say about them. Be careful what you throw your support behind...
It could be a case of voting for the lesser of two evils...
