"We Cut The Coal"
Read: Romans 16:1-16
I commend to you Phoebe . . . ; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also. Romans 16:1-2
Bible In One Year: Psalms 74-76; Romans 9:16-33
Winston Churchill knew that people who work behind the scenes don't always get the credit they deserve. During World War II, many of England's coal miners wanted to enlist and fight on the front lines. Churchill acknowledged their patriotism but reminded them of how valuable their work was to the cause of the war. "Some must stay in the pits," he said, "and others must stay in the army. Both are equally needed, and for both there is equal credit."
Looking ahead to when children would ask their parents what they did in the war, Churchill said, "One will say, 'I was a fighter pilot'; another will say, 'I was in the submarine service'; . . . and you in your turn will say with equal pride and with equal right, 'We cut the coal.'"
Paul too recognized the vital importance of those who worked behind the scenes. Much of Romans 16 is dedicated to honoring some of his fellow workers in the faithpeople such as Phoebe, Andronicus, and Urbanuswhom we would otherwise never know about. Their service was valuable to Paul and to the cause of reaching people for Christ.
Your labor for the Lord may be unseen and unheralded, but it is essential. Continue to "cut the coal." You are valuable to the Lord. Dave Egner

Count not its worth as small;
God does not ask of you great things,
Just faithfulnessthat's all! Bosch

DEAR LORD
Lord, speak to me today, so I can face tomorrow.
Lord, cry me Holy tears, to drown my hidden sorrow.
Lord, walk with me today and be my friend in need.
Lord, put your hand in mine, I'll follow where you lead.
Lord, teach me how to praise, so proper praise is given.
Lord, show me how to live, so life can be worth livin'.
Lord, share with me your wisdom, so knowledge takes control.
Lord, share with me the mystery, that will satisfy the soul.
Lord, render to me your Spirit, that gentleness may show.
Lord, give me joy and peace, so goodness starts to flow.
Lord, lend to me your ear, the ear to many voices.
Lord, teach me right from wrong, so wrong don't make my choices.
Lord, take from me the bad, shine in me through and through.
Lord, give to me the good and make me more like you.
Lord, baptize me in Love, let your spirit live in me.
Lord, teach me to obey your words, be the servant I hope to be.
Lord, lift my spirit high, hold tightly on your grip.
Lord, teach my feet to walk, so they never ever slip.
Lord, take me home real soon, give my soul a final rest.
Lord, just to be with you, is the gift I think is best.

It's somewhat chilly here currently.
*sigh*
Been out hunting trolls, came up with a zot theme song.
Based on "Mr Custer" from many people's mis-spent youth.

Rick, fresh out of accounting school, went to an interview
for a good paying job. The company boss asked various
questions about him and his education. Finally, he asked,
"What is three times seven?"
"22," Rick replied, trying to think quickly. After he left
the interview, Rick double-checked it on his calculator (he
*knew* he should have taken it to the interview!) and
realized that he wouldn't get the job since he gave the
wrong answer.
About two weeks later, Rick was surprised when he got a
letter in the mail that said he was hired for the job!
Although Rick is not the type of person to look a gift horse
in the mouth, he was still very curious. As soon as he could
he went in to his boss's office and asked why he got the job,
even though he got such a simple question wrong.
The boss shrugged and said, "Well, you were the closest."
How close are you to God's Kingdom and heaven?
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient,
deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in
malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour
toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we
have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our
Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be
made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. -Titus 3:3

Hi Amy!
I'm having a good day, thanks. Thanks for the invite. I start teaching Spanish the first week of September. :-( I'm going to Europe next summer for 2 months, so I need to save as much as I can.

Hi, Amy! The lost shall be found -- occasionally :-) I've been offline for over a week, helping take care of a sister who had surgery. Tomorrow I'll be back on the road, but I should be able to visit soon. Cheers to all!

How to start each day with a positive outlook 1. Open a new file in your PC
2. Name it "John Kerry."
3. Send it to the trash
4. Empty the trash.
5. Your PC will ask you, 'Do you really want to get rid of John Kerry?"
6. Answer calmly, "YES," and press the mouse button firmly.
7. Feel better . . . .
