The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Good writing on the Passion. What an experience eh? I'm still getting goosebumps when I talk about it. Still wish there had been a more elaborate finish on the Resurrection. The Resurrection is as significant to the understanding of His sacrifice as was the scourging and Crucifixion. Hate to say it though, as I wouldn't criticize Gibson's film. So masterfully done, and more than just a film.

I saw that and briefly thought about pinging the dwarves, then thought "Naw, better not."

Ok everybody, who all's coming for the moot at my house for Easter? When are you comin' and when are you leavin'? Do I need to pick you up at the airport?

Here's what I have planned...

1. Eating at Rons Hamburgers
2. Making a run to Krispy Kreme
3. Munching on yeast-risen waffles and fresh eggs for breakfast.
4. Eating hotwings, discuss Lembas.
5. Soaking feet.
6. Find something to do, like run up to the Tallgrass Praire, if anyone is interested in that.
7. Church on Easter Sunday for those interested...
8. Soaking feet in the evening...watch the Movies.
9. Sit in the backyard visiting...pet the chickens.

Any other ideas??

hmm, hehe, what about a burger at Goldie's? I have been craving one of them (and their polish-spicy pickles), and I don't even know if the place is still open after all this time.

The only thing I can think of that comes close to my imagination of manna is pita bread.

I imagine shortbread, or a flat beignet. Good thought about lembas being like manna. That never occurred to me.

Seriesly 2J, I really want to go, but looking at the calendar, I just realized that Easter is about 3 weeks before babydue. Not sure the doc will ~let~ me go.

Hehe, how about this (off color joke from my warped sense of humor). Since Lembas has all the wonderful qualities of manna, and some people equate it with the Eucharist, I am thinking... Holy Pita.

My wife and I talked about the resurrection depiction and decided that we felt that aspect was just right as well. Any more of it would have created the danger of becoming smarmy or phoney -- because there is no way to accurately or convincingly portray an event for which there is no point of reference or comparison. I think any more would have either gone over-the-top (ascending-into-the-clouds cliche)or taken the film from its raw reality into something of the realm of sci-fi. No one can depict something like that, something for which we have nothing in our experience to relate it to. That's why all the other renditions of it that have been attempted look cheap and almost laughable.

I think Gibson did it right. He rolled the stone away from the dark into ever-day, showed the shroud billowing like an empty parachute and then a picture perfect Jesus standing and walking away, with only the spike scar on his hand as the reference point. He left the event with its unique dignity that way.

I am getting anxious.

We went to Loews to check out paint colors yesterday. Can't make up my mind. For some reason, I really like green. I have this vision of a very pale green accented with pink and beige.

I also went nuts trying to find a compatible stroller for the infant carrier/carseat I already have (from when elf-boy was little). I think I found two possibilities, one which only has a spot for the carrier (no other place for baby to sit later on), and the other which has a seat AND accomodates carriers. Same price.

I already have an umbrolla stroller (9.99 at walmart), from when I needed one for elf-boy when we were visiting my mom. It is really too big for a new baby. ahem, it's the extra-wide seat. I really want one that will accomodate the carrier/carseat for an infant.

Hindsight is 20/20. Should have never sold the original stroller in the first place. Sold it at a garage sale just before I met PE.

Well said. But there are 3 significant parts that deserve equal treatment on any depiction that attempts them at all; He suffered, He died, and very especially He arose. You make a good point about the first two are within the realm of our comparison, and the third is just not.
