The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Wanted to say hello to a few of my P & P FRiends - have missed a few days saying hi.

Jen, I read your news about your sweet kitty and feel so sad for you - I will pray that he recovers and lives to give you many more years of joy. It sounds like he's a fighter. We've all been through the pain of having our precious animals hurt or sick, or losing them altogether, so asking for prayers for them is not an unusual request.

A state trooper pulls a car over on a lonely back road and approaches the blonde lady driver. "Ma'am, is there a reason that you're weaving all over the road?"

The woman replied, "Oh officer, thank goodness you're here!! I almost had an accident! I looked up and there was a tree right in front of me. I swerved to the left and there was another tree in front of me. I swerved to the right and there was another tree in front of me!"

Reaching through the side window to the rear view mirror,the officer replied, "Ma'am...that's your air freshener."

That is beautiful, Cal. With today being the Marine Corps Birthday and tomorrow, Veteran's Day, it is very important to let our military know that we appreciate all that they give.

One day long ago. There was a king who gathered all the people of the land. He said if anyone could swim across the lake (with crocodiles) would have their choice of : a castle, money, or his daughters hand in marriage. One man jumped up and yelled "I can do it!" He tried and failed.

Another man said "I can do better than that." So he jumped in and didn't make it either.

Next the crowd heard a splash. A man swam all the way across the lake. The king asked him "Which one would you like? A castle, money, or my daughters' hand in marriage."

The man replied "I want the sorry SOB that pushed me in!"
