.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Romance Fulfilled
By Dorothy C. Fox
The bride and groom so beautifully attired
a goal long aspired brought memories of
a bride of a long time ago, when my youth
was all aglow.
The wedding sent me back on this wondrous
day, to a time when romance held sway.
A trist on the beach with my military man
brought a child into my life, and the military man, gone.
This love affair of so long ago. Brought
a tale of woe, but the child so beautious
a one, grew in loveliness and grace and
not in disgrace.
Her lover is true and the ceremony so
beautiful, that I cannot feel sad.
Without that distant space and time,
her life would not be sublime and my tears that I shed are ones of happiness.

AUTUMN FAREWELL
by John T. Baker
The brilliant hues surrender one by one,
the first chill hint of early winter comes,
the weary leaves depart, their work all done,
the fields are stark without chrysanthemums.
A warning touch of frost veneers the lawn,
a half-forgotten prospect bleak unfolds;
all signs foretell soon autumn will be gone
without a trace, not even marigolds.
Now nothing grows but seeds of discontent,
the garden plots revert to barren clods;
despondent floral zealots long lament
the hollyhocks, bewail the goldenrods.
But recollection tempers all regrets,
for Spring will come, and so will violets.

A man walked into a curio store and was looking around. After awhile, he chose a brass rat and brought it up to the counter.
The proprietor said, that will be $10 for the brass rat and $1,000 for the story behind it. The man said, 'Thanks, but I'll just pay the $10 and pass on the story.'
He purchased the brass rat and left the store. As he was walking down the street, he started noticing all sorts of rats following him. The further he walked -- the more rats followed. He walked down to the wharf and still more rats came out and followed him. So, he decided to walk out into the water, which he did -- and all the rats drowned.
He returned to the store where he purchased the brass rat, and when he walked in, the proprietor said, 'Ah ha! You came back to pay the $1,000 for the story, right?'
'Nope,' replied the man, 'Just came back to see if you have any brass lawyers!'

Poetry & Potpourri greetings all !
I am off to read then sleep, but I just wanted to say hello :) I am thrilled today that Terri has been graced by God's merciful hand - I have been worrying about her and am now so thankful that she will be cared for by those who love her. I have no poems for that, sorry... but perhaps will find something suitable tomorrow. Thanks, Amy :)

Hello, Tina.
I'm happy to see you here (tonight) this morning.
Don't worry about having no poem, after all this thread also needs potpourri.
The news on Terri is wonderful indeed. Prayers have been answered.

Please include Jacquelyn in your prayers. She is the 7 year old with leukemia. She has made some improvement but she is still in need of prayers.
