.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

you are some sort of superhero
probably you are three years old,
cowboy boots scuffed, on the wrong feet,
cowboy hat, holster, six shooter, piping on the shirt--
here comes the superhero part:
a towel, safety pinned around your neck.
you are tight-lipped about your other superhero powers,
but you will acknowledge this much--
without the cape you would not be able to fly.

I think the longest word with just one vowel is STRENGTH.Close. It's "strengths". :)
The others, I haven't a clue.
I put all the answers in white font. Highlight the list with your mouse and you'll see them.

A debate on another thread made me think of this prayer I saw the other day. LOL
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my sanity to keep.
For if some peace I do not find,
I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.
I pray I find a little quiet
Far from the daily family riot
May I lie back--not have to think
about what they're stuffing down the sink,
or who they're with, or where they're at
and what they're doing to the cat.
I pray for time all to myself
(did something just fall off a shelf?)
To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
(Oh no, another goldfish--dead!)
Some silent moments for goodness sake
(Did I just hear a window break?)
And that I need not cook or clean--
(well heck, I've got the right to dream)
Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my wits about me keep,
But as I look around I know--
I must have lost them long ago!

What a sweet card you made for our wolfie! I just love that wolf picture. I know he will be so touched by all the hugs and cards from his FRiends on this thread.

Evening friends.
WILD WOMEN
by Benny Hill
Now I don't want you folks to misconstrue,
What I'm about to say to you,
But I'm gonna tell you about the women in my life.
Now I know some gals who are real refined,
But I always seem to get the other kind,
And maybe that's why I've never found a wife.
Now I used to know a gal in Crew,
She was five foot two and eyes of blue,
And, well she told me that her name was Lotty,
But I think she was funny in the head
'cause she used to sleep underneath the bed,
Her parents thought she was a little potty.
But I kind of liked the way she'd smile
So I went around with her for a while,
And I kind of thought of her as my bride to be,
I said, "You're the one girl in my life
And I'd like to have you for my wife,"
She said, "Now what would your wife do with me?"
Chorus:
Beware of wild women, those wild, wild women,
Those wild, wild women around.
Beware of wild women, those wild, wild women,
And never ever let 'em get you down.
One day I met a movie star,
She was just getting out of her Rolls Royce car,
And she was all covered in diamonds and mink.
Now I kind of liked a gal with money,
And this one, well, she was a real honey,
So I said, "Maybe one day you and I could have a little drink."
She said, "You're just my kind of man."
She stuck a phone number in my hand,
She said, "Now phone me up next time that you're in town."
I said, "Is this your penthouse," she said, "No,
It's the fish and chip shop down below,
But you just phone me up and they'll call me down."
Now I was in a Chelsea bar one day,
And there was a chap stood about five feet away,
And we was both admiring a girl about twenty-one,
I said, "You just can't help but stare
At that cute little chick with the long blonde hair,"
He said, "That chick just happens to be my son."
I said, "I didn't mean to offend,
You must let me make a mend,
I mean at least let me buy you another rum.
I said, "You must think me an awful cad,
I didn't know you was his dad."
He said, "I'm not, you twit, I'm his mum."
And never ever let 'em get you dow-ow-ow-ow-own.
Be back later. :-)
