Our Salem colleague Dennis Prager, who's an absolute legend in the world of conservative media, talk radio, and truth-telling, was seriously injured last Tuesday in a fall at his home, and has been hospitalized since that time. We've all been praying for Dennis to have a speedy recovery since the moment we heard the news.

On Sunday afternoon Julie Hartman, Dennis' podcast partner on "The Dennis and Julie Show," provided an update on Dennis' condition. She revealed that Dennis had surgery following his fall and that, "This is not a 'he will be back next week' situation. This is a long haul and a long recovery for Dennis."
Hartman expressed deep gratitude for the millions of prayers that have been uttered on Prager's behalf since Tuesday and the many messages of well-wishes she and Prager's producer, Allen Estrin, have received and urged people to continue those prayers, saying, "Every day we have seen modest improvements."
Rabbi Michael Barclay wrote a wonderful piece about Dennis and the need for prayer over at our sister site PJ Media detailing his accomplishments. This passage struck me:
As many people already know, Dennis Prager had a serious back injury last Tuesday that has put his entire way of life in jeopardy. As a conservative leader and educator, this nation needs people like Dennis to facilitate our nation's return to greatness. And so, it is our obligation and privilege to each pray in our own way for his complete and speedy healing.
Most people know Dennis because of his writings in places like PJ Media, his many books and lectures, his daily radio show, or because of Prager U. But like many public figures, we forget that he is also a man with a family, friendships, passions, and feelings. It's easy to forget that he is more than just a thinker and cigar smoker.
It is important in our prayers to remember that this is a human being with emotions like everyone else. He demonstrates his caring for the world with his mind and actions, but we need to pray for the healing of the man, not just the public figure.

Prager's nationally-syndicated radio show is heard on 400 radio stations and on iHeart Radio and TuneIn. He's the founder of Prager University (PragerU), the most viewed conservative video site in the world, with one billion views a year, more than half by people under the age of 35. He's a true Renaissance Man:
As Dennis continues his journey to recovery, with his wife by his side, all of us at RedState, Townhall Media, and Salem Media Group will be praying continuously.
Last winter, an elderly woman walked to her mailbox at the end of her driveway on a dark freezing night. She lives on a road without much auto or pedestrian traffic. She slipped on some ice, fell on the driveway, and could not get up. She would have frozen to death before long had a young man not been outside nearby and heard her feeble cries for help. He saved her and is a local hero.
A med alert bracelet or necklace would have been the thing to have. Or even not going outside in such conditions without first grabbing your cell phone.
Ouch.
I always fall outside (so far). In parking lots, or down the church steps while carrying a Pyrex dish (which shattered), and on my own front walk, where I fell so hard I broke ribs.
My husband likes to fall down entire flights of stairs, though.
Kyrie eleison x 40.
I had heard that Mark Levine also had fallen recently and injured himself - has anyone else heard that? I think he’s back on the radio now?
Prayers for him.
“After a certain age, gravity is your enemy.”
And can be an inner-ear/canal problem which is my problem. My legs are still strong, my back is still strong but the inner-ear fails me sometimes and if I am not close enough to hold and catch me.....down I go.
You are under 50 aren't you. Not taking care of any elderly parents either.
Praying 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I have a feeling he hit his head or fractured his back, and he is in permanent disability. I'm not telling tales out of school, but he is a large man; his weight has been an issue for years, which makes his back problem and recovery worse than it otherwise would have been if he was, say, 75 pounds lighter.
I hope I am wrong, but we may have heard the last of Dennis Prager as we have come to know (and hopefully love) him. Pray with me tonight for a miraculous recovery for Dennis...
If you’re old and you break your back or something serious, it doesn’t matter where you fell, does it?
True
KABC. I used to listen to that show too. Carol Hemingway had it before Dennis. This was when Dennis still used to remind callers that he was a Gene McCarthy, Robert Kennedy liberal. He actually never changed, but a lot of non-Left liberals migrated to the GOP during Reagan and people assumed that meant they were also conservatives.
I know all too well.
My father took a fall. Broke his elbow, got some pins and a whole lot of rehab.
He constantly jokes with anyone who’ll listen, “Don’t take a fall.” But it’s not a joke.
What he never tells anyone else is that he ignored my mother’s griping about it, procrastinated and let the hemlock branches get so overgrown that they partly blocked the top of the stairs to where the garbage cans were kept. It was only 3 stairs, but it could have been worse. And yeah: He could have suffered a back injury as well.
So, then: When I read a public statement that Prager “took a fall” it echoes in my mind that it’s basically the same thing my father tells everyone to cover for something inherently stupid which was entirely preventable, a lesson he NEVER shares with anyone. Selfish, in a word.
Yeah, I’m a bit sensitive about it and they should damn well be more forthcoming about how he took the fall.
If a person is on the elderly side he/she can fall and circulation be cut off if they cannot get up. Or the person might suffocate. I knew a woman who fell between her toilet and sink. She was not found for hours and ended up having to have her legs amputated. She never recovered.
Shower falls can be lie threatening if the person is so injured that he or she cannot move, or bumped the head and was with out oxygen. Without proper bars and safety measures, bathrooms are deadly for the elderly.
“Or even not going outside in such conditions without first grabbing your cell phone.”
There’s a nice couple down the street, nice house. He’s retired Navy, goes by Chief. She’s Philo. They look about 70. No cell phones, no computer.
That kind of oversharing would have been regarded as gauche once upon a more civilized time.
Exactly. Only someone with out experiences would say that. Falling, after 60, is one of my biggest fears.
