Our Salem colleague Dennis Prager, who's an absolute legend in the world of conservative media, talk radio, and truth-telling, was seriously injured last Tuesday in a fall at his home, and has been hospitalized since that time. We've all been praying for Dennis to have a speedy recovery since the moment we heard the news.

On Sunday afternoon Julie Hartman, Dennis' podcast partner on "The Dennis and Julie Show," provided an update on Dennis' condition. She revealed that Dennis had surgery following his fall and that, "This is not a 'he will be back next week' situation. This is a long haul and a long recovery for Dennis."
Hartman expressed deep gratitude for the millions of prayers that have been uttered on Prager's behalf since Tuesday and the many messages of well-wishes she and Prager's producer, Allen Estrin, have received and urged people to continue those prayers, saying, "Every day we have seen modest improvements."
Rabbi Michael Barclay wrote a wonderful piece about Dennis and the need for prayer over at our sister site PJ Media detailing his accomplishments. This passage struck me:
As many people already know, Dennis Prager had a serious back injury last Tuesday that has put his entire way of life in jeopardy. As a conservative leader and educator, this nation needs people like Dennis to facilitate our nation's return to greatness. And so, it is our obligation and privilege to each pray in our own way for his complete and speedy healing.
Most people know Dennis because of his writings in places like PJ Media, his many books and lectures, his daily radio show, or because of Prager U. But like many public figures, we forget that he is also a man with a family, friendships, passions, and feelings. It's easy to forget that he is more than just a thinker and cigar smoker.
It is important in our prayers to remember that this is a human being with emotions like everyone else. He demonstrates his caring for the world with his mind and actions, but we need to pray for the healing of the man, not just the public figure.

Prager's nationally-syndicated radio show is heard on 400 radio stations and on iHeart Radio and TuneIn. He's the founder of Prager University (PragerU), the most viewed conservative video site in the world, with one billion views a year, more than half by people under the age of 35. He's a true Renaissance Man:
As Dennis continues his journey to recovery, with his wife by his side, all of us at RedState, Townhall Media, and Salem Media Group will be praying continuously.
Do you know how and where he fell? Does not sound like a simple slip and fall in the bathroom.
This is the first I’ve heard of this. How awful!
I’ve been following this since day 1, smh at the “fall at home” bs.
If he fell off a ladder (likely), his family should do the public service and just announce it.
If it was a fall down the stairs, same.
I don’t see the need for the secrecy. Honesty can save others the misfortune, even if it was just a moment of stupidity.
“...has put his entire way of life in jeopardy.” I sure hope he isn’t paralyzed or in tremendous pain. It sounds like he really, really needs our prayers.
Long felt that he has been the most intelligent and logical conservative talk voice for decades.
Not taking away from others, Rush Limbaugh was a giant above all others in many ways, but always felt Dennis was the most persuasive and cerebral.
Hopefully he’ll be back soon and I pray he’s not paralyzed.
I heard he slipped and fell in his shower.
Could be anything. He’s older. People fall in the shower. Stairs. He could have been drinking a bit. Who knows.
He hardly needs to be a public service announcement for taking care not to fall. It only happened days ago.
How can a shower fall be so serious? Doesn’t make sense.
Sounds more like stairs and maybe a rib into a lung, but who knows. Used to listen to his radio show years ago, great guy and very smart.
Prayers for a safe and speedy recovery...
Ooh, just saw the tub thing. More likely to be a head injury in a tub, damn. 800 a year die doing that.
My dear friend, 82, died in her sleep on 9/11. I just found out from her son that his father fell in the kitchen on Wednesday, broke his hip, and wasn’t found until Friday. He lay on the floor for two days. Those falls ... I guess at a certain age it’s time to look into First Alert or similar.
This so-called health update is more of an advertising update than it is a health update. If we’re reading this, we already know about his writing, etc., and don’t need a rerun.
Not really. My husband and I have fallen so many times in the last few years, and it's a wonder we're still around.
They're not "moments of stupidity," they're just moments. Instants. You put a foot wrong, and there you go.
After a certain age. gravity is your enemy.
If they are not talking about it, my guess is that the injury was serious.my fear is that it involves loss of motor control and sensation below a certain level of a vertebrae of the spine.
IMHO...praying for full recovery(knowing that I have no idea of how serious the injury is.)
Falls anywhere can be serious. The week before I ran the Pensacola Half this year, I tripped and went flying during a run. I hit that sidewalk pretty hard. In fact, in some weird quirk, my top front teeth hit the sidewalk. I chipped one tooth, and I have mild enamel fractures in two others. I also hit my left knee pretty hard, and it still hurts some when I kneel. And after all that, along with numerous cuts on my hands and knees, I consider myself lucky that it wasn’t much worse.
I ran that half while still having bandages on my knees and my left hand.
Been listening to Dennis since his days as moderator and host on the old “Religion On the Line” radio show in Los Angeles back in the early 1980’s. I remember it used to come on about 11:00 pm when I was either starting or ending my night or graveyard shift and I never missed it. I credit Dennis with teaching me to think about and discuss important issues in a calm, logical, and polite manner and it has stood me in good stead lo these many years. My prayers are with him.
He’s had back trouble in the past and — if I remember correctly — he’s had two prior back surgeries. Perhaps this recent fall is complicated by his earlier back problems.
May God grant Dennis complete healing! Amen!
